It takes the pressure off to be see the not gunna use aviary, empty. They have gone to new homes, and hopefully they do well for their new owners. I let many of the older birds go that have done well for me, I am out my faith in the youngsters to keep Progressing. Time will tell if it is the right decision.
I prefer to have personal visitors so they can see the relationships of the birds that are available. Most importantly they can see in the flesh what is available and make their decisions based on that. A bit old school I know!

I had a chance to look at a few of the young sky blues today. There are some handy birds amongst them, zoom in and check em out. And how good are sky blues? I can remember visiting Derek Bowley many years ago in the uk, he Had nothing but sky blues, what a sight to see and he was an absolute gentleman.
I love the looks I get when I tell visitors that sky blues are a genetic powerhouse. That’s if they are good ones and well bred.

Opalines, have been were almost extinct in my aviary. I have been working to re-establish them, I bred plenty of them this season. These are three brothers very young and starting to put some size on. Working on improving them and keeping the top ends clean is the challenge. It can be done.

Show cages!!!! Wow this has been an epic journey, that has gone on for over 4 months. Nothing happens overnight any more and everything costs more than you think. When I Found out that the 40 show cages I had in storage, are no longer complying, with the fronts not correct. Then dismantle cages and get the fronts powder coated. Once dismantled I thought a refurb was the go, the insides were sanded and given a few coats of semi gloss. Now as I get time I will put them back together. The cages were mostly made by Frank Duff and were regarded at the time as the best of the best, both in materials and craftsmanship, so worth the effort. They look pretty flash as they go back together. I only touched up the outsides of the ones that needed it.
I rekon I have way cages than I need, so if anyone is chasing show cages send me a message.

A few more youngsters fighting through their first moults. A couple of hen and a light green c**k. I love looking at the common features across my birds, and think of how to enhance these features . Although they are a bit of an embarrassment compared to my friends in the UK. A recent Uk trip confirming much more work needs to be done.

It’s nice to kick back and relax whilst parting with a little bit of claret. The lengths I will go too, to get some time away from the daily grind. A pleasant way to steal an hour and a snack or to enhance the experience. The Red Cross blood service do great work. If you can, donate!

I Pulled a few hen young hens out of the breeding cages today. They are in a recovery cage before being put out in the main flights. They were maiden hens and all produced well. Perfect hens, what I call henny hens, they look like hens. If they look like hens the chances are they will behave like hens. These lay lots of eggs, which are mainly fertile, they incubate well, they feed well. I should add Now, because that has not always been the case.
I can see the resemblance in their chicks, with the features the mums carry being passed on.

Having a Quick Look in the baby cage , I few young grey green c**ks have come on a bit since dismissing them early on. I don’t breed many grey greens nor hang onto many, but a couple of these are worth a second appraisal.

Last couple of nest for the 2023/24 season. I have several other pair just about to fly their last chicks. It has been a cracker of a season. 150% on last season, and last season was a good one. I made a few changes in feeding/nutrition and a perch reevaluation. Over feeding your birds???, who would have thought and under nourishment at the same time.

Once nice clean opaline just out of the nest. There is one or two nice opaline bubs starting to grow out, most of them very clean. Also another baby spangle grey looks ok I think. Not much to dislike about them.

A few of the young spangle c**ks that have performed very well in the breeding cages this season. Very fertile and excellent parents, two traits I select for. There is not much point in having some nice birds that are not good breeders.

One of my favourite varieties, normal light green. These young brothers have product nearly 30 chicks this season between them, the better one has had two different hens, and there is plenty of good youngsters out of them to select as future breeders from; especially young hens.

A few more bubs hit the floor. Nice looking baby hens. Plenty of usefulness in their features.
