Happy Easter to all our furry friends and their loving owners! At Kooringal Vet Hospital we understand how special the bond is between you and your pets. This Easter holiday season make sure to spend some quality time with your pets and keep an eye out for common Easter hazards. A very brave little patient cuddled up here with our Client Engagement Officer Mel! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ This tough kitty is Nerman, a survivor of snake envenomation. He recently completed treatment with us after his quick-thinking family rushed him to our care.

Snakes are a huge threat to household pets, especially in the warmer months when our animals spend more time in the outdoors. We urge all pets owners to be on the lookout for snakes in your yard or outdoors areas you visit with pets, and remind our community that we're available 24/7 for emergencies๐Ÿšจ

If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, contact us as soon as possible on โ˜Ž๏ธ (02) 6922 5375

๐Ÿ“ฃLOST PET๐Ÿ“ฃ A client has reached out to us regarding a Cockatiel spotted at Jubilee Park today suspected to be a lost pet. The bird (pictured below) appeared tame and had clipped wings, but was unable to be caught and flew up into a tree. We hope this information can spread to the owner of the bird so they might be successfully reunited with their family.

You might not have heard the term before, but you've likely experienced a zoonotic disease in your lifetime ๐Ÿฆ

Zoonotic diseases, or zoonoses, are diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Commonly known diseases and infections include bacterial infections (Q fever, flea-borne spotted fever, cat-scratch fever), parasitic infections (intestinal worms, mites), and fungal infections (ringworm).

With 3 in 5 Australian households owning pets, your chances of you or your pet running into a zoonotic disease are rather high. The most effective ways to protect the whole family (fur kids included) from a zoonotic disease are to:
๐Ÿ’‰Vaccinate and regularly deworm your pet
๐ŸฅฉAvoid feeding your pet raw diets
๐ŸงผPractice good hygiene (hand-washing after playing with pets, immediately disposing of pet faeces)
๐ŸฉบRegular veterinary health checks for your pet

For facts, findings and prevention advice around all things zoonoses, watch our socials this month as we shine a spotlight on this important topic!

Proud to share this exciting news about our very own Dr. Mark Sayer! We hope all attendees enjoy this opportunity to learn from Mark's expertise and that he has a safe trip ๐Ÿ›ฉ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

CONFERENCE NEWS:
We are pleased to announce Dr. Mark Sayer is joining our team of presenters. Dr Sayer is traveling from Australia to attend the conference.
Dr Mark Sayer | B.V.Sc MBA MMktg(Pub. Relations) MCom MPAF | Senior Veterinary Surgeon and Director NSWV3255

Dr Sayer graduated from Sydney University in 1983.

After working in clinics around Sydney he moved to central NSW where he and his lovely wife Jaimie started to rescue, raise, rehabilitate and release Eastern Grey Kangaroos whilst raising a family and running several veterinary clinics.

Dr Sayer's passion for wildlife lead him to study Veterinary Chiropractic training in Germany, advanced macropod medicine and develop his surgical and medical skills with marsupials with orthopedics being an area of strength and knowledge.

We are quite fortunate to have Dr Sayer join our team, and thrilled you will be here to benefit from his extensive knowledge.

If you still have not invited your veterinarian to attend, make sure you invite them as soon as so they can take advantage of the Early Bird discount which expires February 1st.

In this blazing summer heat, dehydrated or distressed wildlife may seek shelter in your yard ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ”๐ŸฆŽ We've compiled a few simple tips you can implement to make your yard more wildlife-friendly, and lend these friends a helping hand!

๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿš˜ "One in every 41 casualty crashes on country roads involves a vehicle hitting an animal." - NSW Centre for Road Safety (2022)

Australia Day and other public holidays are huge days for travel in our country, which unfortunately means an increased risk of run-ins with wildlife on our roads. Wildlife, especially kangaroos and wallabies, use the road as a crossing point and can be easily startled by oncoming traffic. Animals may dart onto the road or freeze with fright, making them incredibly unpredictable. Areas marked with a wildlife road sign indicate spots of high animal traffic, especially near sunrise and sunset.

Just as much as it breaks our hearts to see injured wildlife brought to us from a road accident, we also worry for the health of the driver and passengers involved. Being vigilant while driving, checking the roadside and slowing down in wildlife zones could prevent a collision and protect both yourself and local animals from serious harm ๐ŸŒฑ

If you encounter a sick, injured or orphaned native animal in NSW, please phone WIRES Wildlife Rescue Line on 1300 094 737 to arrange a rescue. For further safe driving information visit: https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/.../index.html
