✨ FANG ✨

Fang was returned to our, now closed down, animal rescue four years ago due to behavioural problems. This member of the staff fell in love with her goofy face and decided to get these behavioural issues assessed, to no avail. Fang found her forever home, and our staff member found a great companion... Can you guess who?!

✨ DAHLIA ✨

Dahlia was admitted to our, now closed down, animal rescue a few years ago in need of a complex procedure to ensure quality of life. One of our staff members, knowing that adult cats don't find home quickly, especially if they are in need to treatment, decided to take her in all her glory on. She received all necessary treatment and now lives rent-free in this staff members house.. Can you guess who?!

An AVH PSA is an important reminder during Halloween season. Giving our furry companions human treats can cause major health issues. Chocolate and candy contain ingredients that are toxic 😦 and even fatal 💀 for our dog friends. Even fruits like raisins can be dangerous. Instead of table scraps, treat your good boys and girls with Halloween-themed toys 🎃 and dog-friendly snacks. 🐶 This helps keep them safe and healthy while still allowing them to join in the Halloween fun!

Every Halloween we are tempted to give our loving dogs some of our tasty treats. While your pup may give you those adorable begging eyes 🥺, resist the urge to share chocolate, lollipops or candy corn with them. These sweets contain sugar, artificial sweeteners and caffeine that can make our canine companions very sick. 🤒 Instead, show your dog some Halloween love by spending extra time with them, giving enrichment toys and healthy dog treats specially made for the spooky season.

🦎✨LUCKY ESCAPE✨🦎

Meet our incredible survivor, a stunning Shingleback Lizard who defied all odds!

This little hero was sent flying by NOT ONE, but TWO vehicles - a truck and a car!

Against all expectations, our scaled friend walked away UNSCATHED!

Upon examination at our clinic, we found some older, fully healed injuries, but currently, this beautiful lizard is in top condition.

And the best part? This docile darling is as calm as can be!

October is Heartworm Awareness Month! 🫀🪱

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition caused by parasitic worms that live in a dog's heart and lungs. It's spread through mosquito bites and can cause:

🪱 Coughing and wheezing
🪱Fatigue and lethargy
🪱Weight loss and loss of appetite
🪱Difficulty breathing

But there's good news!

Prevention is easy and effective!

Monthly heartworm prevention (e.g. tablets, chewables, topical treatments and injections)
Annual testing for heartworms
Using mosquito repellents

Don't wait until it's too late!

Consult with your vet to determine the best prevention plan for your furry friend! ✨

The shocking truth... 😮

50% of dogs and 60% of cats are overweight or obese!

Excess weight increases the risk of joint and mobility issues, Heart disease and diabetes amongst other conditions! It can also significantly reduce your pets life span!

Be sure to keep a close eye on your pets appearance and watch out for visible belly fat, lack of energy, difficulty walking or breathing.

Ensure you monitor your pets food intake if you believe they are carrying a little extra weight. Exercise is important but most animals benefit more from nutrition rather than exercise when trying to lose weight. Seek out healthy treat options such as carrot, broccoli or celery.

Small changes = BIG difference!

Simple Ways to Help Wildlife

1. Provide water: Install a birdbath in your garden or provide wildlife with shallow bowls.
2. Create a habitat: Plant native plants, trees and flowers to provide shelter and food.
3. Avoid using pesticides: Use natural methods to control pests and protect wildlife.
4. Support local conservation: Donate to or volunteer with local wildlife organisations.
5. Reduce plastic use: Avoid single-use plastics.
6. Drive safely: Slow down and watch for wildlife, especially at night.
7. Keep your animals away: Keep your cats indoors and control your dogs.
8. Create an exit in your pools: If you have pool, place a ramp so wildlife can easily escape if they fall in.

Every small action adds up to make a BIG difference!
