Box Divvy is Community owned and run. This is a fruit veg and grocery cooperative. We purchase as a group up to 40% cheaper than supermarkets. It’s a Smart coop and you get more of what you want than a normal coop. Box Divvy is a food box sharing system connecting growers & food producers directly with the Food . It is community owned and run designed to cut your food bill. You join online - there is no registration fee. https://www.boxdivvy.com/ You use an App on your phone or computer or a pad to order. It’s an OPT OUT SYSTEM so you must suspend an order if not wanted that week BEFORE START ORDER published. With Western Sydney Diabetes Alliance our aim is to provide accessible, inexpensive good quality fresh food.

4 DAY ORDER CYCLE –
FOR Friday

Sunday 9pm Must have cancelled orders not wanted for coming week OR change household size. DO “WISH LIST VOTE”. It’s an OPT OUT system so if you don't want an order the following week you MUST cancel your order. Monday Starting Order Published then login take up to 3 things out JOIN SPLITS

Wednesday 9pm CUTOFF Orders closed. There’s a $5 recharge on declined payments third processing onwards each attempt. You must pay BEFORE pick up. Friday PICK UP. You must pick up day of delivery at the pick up time or arrange with Hubster. Home Delivery offered but please ask Hubster first. PAYMENTS
You must pay for your order once committed to an order cycle. Once in an Order Cycle we cannot withdraw an order. It is your responsibility to suspend the correct weeks. If you have an order, thought you'd suspended, you did the wrong week. It must be paid before pick up. The system automatically charges twice and automatically sends emails letting you know if payment declined. There is a $5 recharge applied on the third attempt as it's manually processed and this fee goes to paying someone to manually process the payment. Please don't ask for this payment to not be applied. ORDERING SYSTEM - dead simple. You share boxes online using the App. It’s OPT OUT system so if you don’t want an order you MUST suspend an order BEFORE Order Creation otherwise you’re in the Order. When you tick the date, wait, it will turn red to confirm suspension. You’re expected to order weekly or fortnightly. STARTING ORDER:
There’s a Starting Order based on your weekly ‘wish list’ VOTE and you can take out up to 3 things. Every week BEFORE Order Creation do a Wish List Vote to help Hubster (person who organisers Hub) to set up Starting Order. WANT MORE? SHARE BOXES known as SPLITS

If you wish more you join Splits or share boxes. You can suggest a Box to share or your Hubster (the person who runs the Hub). Like saying to your group: “Who’d like to share a box of apples?”

At order cut-off you pay automatically online (Visa or Mastercard & Secure Eway Payment gateway) then boxes from growers & food wholesalers come to the Hubster house for packing. You pick up from their place. FRUIT VEG Bread Eggs Order pay get this week

GROCERIES Order pay get next week due to fresh roasting of coffee, packing of goods on order. BREAD baker direct – Minimum HUB order Total must reach $30

GROCERIES wholesaler direct – Minimum HUB order total must reach $75. READ THE AMOUNTS YOU ARE PURCHASING
Check carefully if the items is single, handfuls, 500gm, 1 kg etc. Don't assume it's by one item. EXAMPLE: Cherries sold by the box. Don;' put in 5 thinking it's handfuls when it's boxes. Read the descriptions please. EXTRAS - there are ALWAYS extras as the box belongs to members so your Hubster will divvy extras when available. Also there is usually a SWAP box - if you forget to customise your Starting Order. You can throw in some apples and take out some carrots. You will get great value. COMMUNITY BOX - Many Hubsters ask members if this SWAP BOX can become a COMMUNITY KINDNESS BOX given to a family in need. This is part of the Social Enterprise experience by being part of the Hub. NOT WANT AN ORDER? There are no contracts, you can cancel orders when you don’t want them. WANT EXACTLY 1 tomato 2 oranges? Then Box Divvy is not for you. This is a coop and things are in handfuls NOT exact items. You need to be flexible but you'll always get good value. We are a group of community minded people wanting to change the food system. Reduce packaging and pay our farmers fairly. By reducing our carbon footprint by 90% this means we buy in bulk as a group and then share it. We need to be a bit flexible. You will know roughly what you will get but you can’t get exactly. We have a Packing Guide but the numbers will change as produce is smaller or larger. Mostly you will get extras overall. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I SPEND? EASY. You will pay the STARTING ORDER PLUS if you join in SPLITS or ADD Groceries. At the bottom of MY ORDER you will see the MAX you will pay if all your SPLITS get over the line, any groceries you’ve ordered plus Starting Order . You can reduce the SPLITS or Groceries you joined BEFORE CUTOFF. PACKAGING

Much of the produce comes loose so do provide your Hubster with a NAME LABELLED BAG: ALSO - calico/wash nets to put handfuls in (do not expect your Hubster to provide paper bags please): Bring in your old icecream containers for the Hub to put soft stuff in. If you get an item in plastic recycle it in your soft plastic bin. We don't interrupt the packing from farmer to you so manage this please. Farmers are trying to work out how to transport produce and it can’t always be plastic free - for the moment. The Sugar Cane bags are not strong, don't last and definitely not airtight. Cardboard and paper fall apart. New technology is being worked on. NOT FOR ME
If after you’ve tried it and Box Divvy is not working the way you want then you can cancel membership. So? Join our group to make a difference. You have the power to do so. Cut your food bill significantly – Wow! The goal: to cut your food bill, without compromising on the quality, freshness and variety of food. With minimal effort, minimal packaging and food miles, and still paying farmers and suppliers a fair price for their produce.

I love that we get to have fresh fruit and veg in all different shapes colours and sizes! I’ve learnt so much about how food is grown and learnt to think outside what my own expectations of good food looks like!

Sometimes the ugliest lemons are the juiciest, the green oranges are the most flavoursome and the bumpiest avocadoes are the most delicious!

In the new episode of "How Does it Grow?", the labor-intensive methods farmers go through to prevent their cauliflower from turning yellow are revealed.

This week!
Strawberries are coming in jumbo size! I can't wait to taste these this week.

Fun fact about Valencia's : When they get a lot of
sun, their skin develops a green
hue by way of sunscreen
protection that makes them
appear unripe – but in fact, the
greener they are, the more sun
they’ve had and the sweeter
they’ll be.

With Pineapples feedback from growers suggests
that they were expecting the
hospitality sector to absorb a lot
more pineapples now that
Lockdown has come to an end.
Perhaps the transition isn’t quite
going to fast as they were hoping –
so there’s a bit of overhang in the
supply. Your advantage: pay just
$2.50 for a large pineapple.

The Box Divvy community is getting kinda huge! Our little hub definitely has some similar top 5's to the overall community...although we are an avocado hub FOR SURE! 🥑

The left is the largest quantities ordered and the right is the most hub members have spent on items...

This all seems pretty close to what our hub averages would be!

What is your family top 5?!

Meat week! Here we go!

Its Meat/Seafood Order Week 🦐🥓🥩 who's excited 😊 🤗 this little duck is!

* All sausages (except for the Thin and Thick beef sausages) are made in-house by Handler, and are of the non-industrial variety.

*The mince – beef, pork or lamb – is made from 100% meat, with zero additives or water.

*The bacon rashers 🥓…well, where do we start? Several members wrote to us, saying that ‘this is the best bacon I’ve ever tasted’.

Perhaps not entirely surprising when your read the process is has gone through: ‘Our rindless bacon uses high quality pork carefully selected from our favourite farms. The pork middles are then prepared by our specialised smallgoods makers using our own special cure & marinate, then double smoked over a 10 hour cooking cycle. We select the finest Beachwood woodchips that create an authentic smoke flavour.‘

As with all of Handler’s meat, you can find cheaper options – but nowhere near as good as the bangers, mince and bacon you can now purchase separately.

You will find the new boxes under the Mixed Meat section, except Bacon which is listed under Pork.

Last calls for lemons!!!!

Preserve those bad boys - the next season kicks off in April... heres how:

There are many ways to keep lemons until the
season starts again in about April: freezing,
dehydrating, zesting – but preserving them in
salt is by far the most flavoursome method. It is
commonly used in North-African cooking to
counterbalance the sweet fruit like dates and
raisins used in stews. What you end up using for
cooking is the preserved rind which has been
softened by the curing process.
Preserving lemons is easy, but it’s important to sterilize your jars: boil in water for 20
minutes, but the easier method is to heat them in the oven to between 70 and 90 degrees
Celsius for 30 minutes. Make sure you include the lids.

You need 4 Tbsp of salt for every 6-8 lemons.
Thoroughly wash the lemons in cold water and pat
them dry. Cut off both ends, and then slice a cross
lengthwise to about 1-2 cm from the bottom (see pic).
Open up the lemon and sprinkle generously with salt.
Put the lemons into the jar once by one, making sure
to pack them tightly. Use a wooden spoon to push
them down and release their juices. For extra flavour,

add peppercorns, whole coriander, cumin, bay leaves or cinnamon sticks.
Once packed, add remaining salt to the jar. If the lemons are not submerged in juice, top off
with freshly squeezed lemon juice. They must be fully submerged, or you risk mould growth
on the exposed parts.
Put the jars in a cool, dark spot for 2-3 weeks before moving them into the fridge where
they’ll keep for up to 12 months.
Once the preserved lemons are ready to use, remove any flesh and pith – leaving just the
softened rind. Rinse off any remaining salt, and it’s ready for cooking.

We have good intentions; but sometimes things get left a little longer than we hoped.

Love these tips from Seed & Sprout !

Got some wilted vegetables in the bottom of your fridge? Instead of automatically adding them to your compost, try an ice bath instead! Most vegetables are more than 50% water so if they're dehydrated add them to an ice bath and within hours they can look as good as new.

1. Cut away anything that is too wilted or not needed
2. For most vegetables you can submerge them straight into a bowl of ice water (we love to use our Eco Stows for this!)
3. For anything with a stalk or roots (think leafy greens, herbs and broccoli) treat them like flowers and trim the ends and then stand them up in water

Voila! Food waste and money saved as well as one less visit to the shop - that's something we can get on board with.

Shout out to the Dad’s!

We have all the different Dad’s at our hub.

So many of you come and collect on Friday’s not really knowing what you’re getting… but you get the job done.

You get the kids picked up from daycare, or bring them along for the walk to get out of the house…you get the job done.

Sometimes with a trailer full of things to be built and plants to be planted…you’re getting the job done.

The Dads who put insulation in a garage to help keep it cool for veggies - you get the job done!

Shout out to the Dad’s! Thanks for making lives fuller and exciting. And for getting the job done.

They’re grown chemical-free and have been coming in soooo beautiful and crisp!

Grab a couple, a quick google search says to store in an airtight plastic bag/container in the fridge for fresh lettuce all week.

So you aren't sure...
🤔There seems to be a lot of information I need to know...
🤷‍♀️I am not sure if it will work for me...
😎but I keep seeing it and wanting to give it a go...

I understand! It seems like a lot; BUT with Box Divvy we are a community... you won't be alone

Cait your hubster (along with the other supportive members) can answer any questions you have along the way and by week 2 or 3 you will be wondering why you were ever unsure!

Sometimes the best thing to do is to just jump in and give it a go!

(literally, you can just cancel if it's not for you - no sweat...I doubt you will though 😏 )

So give it a go...our hub is nearly maxed out and I don't want you (our early supporter) to miss out on being part of the fun.
