Did you know that raisins and grapes are highly toxic to dogs? 🍇

School’s back, which means lunchboxes mysteriously end up on the floor, kids definitely drop snacks, and dogs instantly become professional cleanup crews.

But beware—raisins and grapes are NOT dog-friendly! In fact they can cause serious kidney failure in dogs.

🐶 Signs your dog had a forbidden fruit:
❌ Vomiting
❌ Lethargy
❌ Loss of appetite
❌️ Increased thirst or urination

If your dog sneaks one, CALL US IMMEDIATELY! No time for “wait and see” (or Googling “how much raisin is too much?”).

Let’s keep those sneaky snack thieves safe! Store lunchboxes high, train kids to not share, and remind yourself that dogs cannot have “just one.”

📞 Call (07) 5228 0007 if your pup pulls a snack heist!

Happy New Year! 🐶🐱🐦

31/12/2024

🎆 New Year's Eve is almost here, and so are the fireworks! Did you know that more pets are lost on this night than any other? 😿

While fireworks signal celebrations for us, they can be terrifying for our furry friends. The loud noises often cause fear and anxiety, leading some pets to try to escape by jumping or digging under fences - and in the process, they can get hurt.

To help keep your pets safe, here are our top tips for the fireworks season:
🐾 Know when fireworks are happening so you can plan ahead
🐾 Give your pet plenty of exercise beforehand - a tired pet is a calmer pet!
🐾 Create a cozy, safe space inside with closed blinds, a comfy hideaway, and calming music or TV to mask the noise
🐾 Stay calm and act normally - avoid comforting your pet too much, as it can reinforce anxiety
🐾 Make sure your pet is microchipped and that their details are up-to-date, just in case they escape

See link in comments for our full guide about ways to calm your dog during fireworks. 🎇🐾

We're sure you have all seen her around the place, but an introduction is always fun.

Brooke makes up the second half of our vet-nurse ownership team. Of the many hats Brooke wears, some of the most commonly seen in the clinic include practice manager, senior veterinary nurse, and professional treat lady!

Thunderstorms can be stressful for our furry friends! Here are some tips to help keep your pets calm during stormy weather:

🌩️ Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy area with their favourite blankets and toys where they can feel secure.

🌩️ Stay Close: Spend time with them during the storm. Your presence can provide comfort and reassurance.

🌩️ Distractions: Use calming music or white noise to help drown out the thunder. Engaging them with toys or treats can also divert their attention.

🌩️ Thunder Shirts: Consider a snug-fitting shirt designed to calm anxious pets. The gentle pressure can be soothing!

🌩️ Practice Desensitisation: If possible, gradually expose your pet to storm sounds at a low volume to help them get used to the noise.

Remember, every pet is different, so be patient and find what works best for your furry companion. Let’s keep them safe and calm during those stormy nights! ❤️🐾

🎄🐾 Keep the Christmas Puddin’ for Yourself! 🐾🎄

The holidays are a time for indulgence, but some festive foods can be dangerous for your pets! Here are a few to watch out for:

🚫 Chocolate – Toxic to both cats and dogs.

🚫 Grapes, Raisins & Sultanas – Found in Christmas puddin’, mince pies, and fruitcakes—these can cause kidney failure in pets.

🚫 Onions & Garlic – Common in stuffing and sauces, they can harm your pet’s red blood cells.

🚫 Alcohol – Even small amounts can be dangerous.

Let’s keep Christmas merry and your pets safe! If they do get into something they shouldn’t, call us straight away (07) 5228 0007.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season from all of us at The Neighbourhood Vet - Tewantin
