Robert Olive did an awesome rescue of this sweet Pied Cormorant who as you can see had a very nasty injury due to fishing hooks and line ๐Ÿ˜” Robs account - he took off into the water, but was a bit too weak to fly, so a mop loaned Rob his kayak and he went for a chase with a net, the bird jumped back up onto land and Rob could see he was going to jump back into the water and when he did, he was able to net him!

The poor sweetheart ended up having multiple internal hooks, so the vets gave him his angel wings ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’™

There are quite a few pelicans that need rescuing at present and we continue to do whatever we can to help them!

Our hotline received a call about a pelican with line coming out of their beak (which usually means a hook down the throat) at Picnic Point The Entrance!

Luckily Cathy Gilmore is on holidays and was able to head down immediately and it turned out it was the big baby boy who had a hook stuck just inside the pouch and was able to be released once the hook was removed!

The wonderful volunteers for the Lions Park came over to ask Cath if she needed a hand and it was much appreciated!

Stay away from the fisherfolk Bubba!!!

There are quite a few pelicans needing rescuing because of fishing line and hook injuries! Always comes with school holidays!

We received a call to our hotline regarding a pelican with line coming out the beak at Picnic Point The Entrance and luckily Cathy Gilmore is on holidays, so was able to head straight there!

This beautiful big baby boy came running up to Cath and she was able to grab him and these wonderful Lions Club volunteers asked if she needed assistance, which was very much appreciated!!

So the sweet bird was relieved off the hook in his throat and released straight away!!

Well done team and if you see injured marine wildlife please give us a call on 0478 439 965

Thank you, Dr. Jane Goodall.

You are being remembered and celebrated as an extraordinary human being for your insurmountable commitment to protecting the natural world.

You leave a legacy of so many critically important messages and itโ€™s your belief in HOPE and how you define it that in our current world is one to live by.

Jane Goodall messages around HOPE.

โ€œHope is often misunderstood. People tend to think that it is simply passive wishful thinking: I hope something will happen but Iโ€™m not going to do anything about it. This is indeed the opposite of real hope, which requires action and engagement.โ€

โ€œHope does not deny the evil but is a response to it.โ€

โ€œI do have reasons for hope: our clever brains, the resilience of nature, the indomitable human spirit, and above all, the commitment of young people when theyโ€™re empowered to take action.โ€

A must read โ€” Jane Goodall, The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times

My Hope is that she has inspired enough people, especially young people in the world, to carry on her legacy, including her legacy of active and engaged Hope. ~ Sarah Beard

Our beautiful girl Lizzy - who would always run towards us ended up with a huge hook in her leg and would come no where near us!
Trying to catch her by land and then by boat (thanks to The Entrance Boatshed) with no success Michelle Proudfoot never gave up! Ditching Cathy Gilmore ๐Ÿ˜‚ for Peliman Robert Olive in the kayak who was able to chase Lizzy towards the wharf where Michelle was able to dive on her!! YAY!! She was then taken to our wonderful vet John at Long Jetty Vets who was able to get the nasty hook out and treat her! She will be in for a couple of days rehab and feed and then will be able to be released!!
Well done team!!

Continuing on our story following the environmentally friendly bunting for the little tern nesting site, here is a quick time lapse of the final stages threading the flags onto the ropes, in total we threaded and stapled over 400 flags across 14 lengths of rope, thank you again to Take 3, ChirpyPlus Australia & Central Coast Council for the opportunity to be a part of this and to document some of the process.

The Little Terns will be arriving soon and they will have environmentally friendly flags surrounding their nesting site!...

The Little Terns will be arriving soon and they will have environmentally friendly flags surrounding their nesting site!! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

Youโ€™ll see Council crews at The Entrance channel over the next four days.

The foreshore works are progressing to support the seasonal return of the Little Terns and to help maintain an exchange of water between the estuary and the ocean.

Works include:
โœ… installation of protective fencing
โœ… land-based dredging, sand scraping and foreshore nourishment
โœ… re-distribution of sand from the channel throat towards Karagi Reserve Carpark and the beach accessway.

๐Ÿšง Karagi Reserve carpark will be closed during this time.

Weโ€™re not only protecting little terns but also maintaining and preserving access to the sandspit. This will allow us to deliver essential programs more effectively, including channel and berm management, litter removal and other maintenance activities as required.

Check out our website to learn more about the endangered species https://hubs.la/Q03Kg3hV0

Now for the 2nd rescue today!
A noose (foot snare) and this sweetheart is still in care with Brenda Campbell from an injury to the wing and on some antibiotics because of the heat indicating an infection, but should be able to be released very soon!
Way to go Michelle Proudfoot for a great catch and Robert Olive there to support!

Whoo Hoo team!!
