๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜ฑ12 MONTHS FLEA & TICK TREATMENT๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿพ

Wollondilly Animal Hospital now offers year-long flea and paralysis tick protection for dogs in one dose.๐Ÿถ
That's 12 months of flea and paralysis tick prevention! Yes please!

Ensuring the safety of your dog from fleas and paralysis ticks is crucial year-round.
Fleas and ticks are not just a nuisance, they can potentially threaten your dog's health, no matter where you live. In Australia, the paralysis tick is one of the most dangerous parasites with just one female adult tick bite capable of causing life threatening illness and even death to your beloved dog. That is why it's vital to prioritise year-round prevention in conjunction with daily searching for and removal of any ticks found.
Symptoms of tick paralysis include:
- Weakness in limbs
- Changes in the sound of their bark
- Rapid or difficulty breathing
- Coughing, gagging, or vomiting.
If you believe your dog is exhibiting symptoms of tick paralysis, contact us immediately
Remember prevention is better than treatment.

For some dogs, Spring time means allergies.๐Ÿพ
Our dogs love a good scratch, but how do you know when it's a sign of an underlying allergy?

An allergy could be caused by bacterial and/or yeast infections, parasites, or can even be caused by something in their food or the surrounding environment.
Imagine not being able to tell someone that you are itchy!
Keep an eye out for one or more of the following symptoms:
- Redness
- Hair loss
- Regularly chewing, scratching, licking and/or biting
- Sores
- Scooting
- Darkened areas of the skin and more.

Remember that an allergy can't be fixed, it can only be managed!๐Ÿพ

You know your dog better than anyone else, but if you see one or more of the following symptoms then weโ€™d highly recommend getting in touch with us asap!๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ HEATSTROKE AND OUR PETS โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ
It's time to brush up on heatstroke preventatives for our pets. Summers in Australia are notorious for their unforgiving temperatures and harsh heat, making heat stress an emergency in most cases.

Here are some tips to help your pets beat the heat this Summer:
1) Ensure your pets always have access to shade and water throughout the day. You can provide extra shade using shade cloths and umbrellas.
2) Provide multiple water bowls in shaded areas to keep it cool and in case one is accidentally knocked over.
3) To help keep your pets water cool, you can freeze half a bowl of water overnight and add cool water to the remainder of the bowl to help it last all day.
4) If your pet likes to play in water, set up a shallow paddling pool for them to play in. Be sure they are always supervised during water activities.
6) Allow your outdoor pets to come inside the house to enjoy a cooling fan or better yet, air conditioning. This works best when your pet can relax on a tiled floor.
7) Walk your dog in the early morning or later evening when itโ€™s cooler. A good way to know if itโ€™s okay to go walking, place your hand on the concrete. If you can leave it there comfortably for 5 seconds your petโ€™s feet wonโ€™t burn.
๐Ÿ˜Ž NEVER LEAVE YOUR PET IN A PARKED CAR ALONE, EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN! Temperatures in a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels, even on mild days.
9) Pay close attention to young, old, overweight, and brachycephalic breeds (animals with pushed in faces) as they often suffer from signs of heat stroke sooner.
10) Pets with thick coats can benefit from having a โ€œsummer clipโ€, allowing them to stay cooler (and remove any unwanted mattes).

If your pet is excessively panting, has bright red gums, and labored breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately! ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽ‡ FIREWORKS ๐ŸŽ‡๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽ†

With New Year's Eve right around the corner it's important to be mindful that as pretty as fireworks are for the human eye, our pets can find them quite scary.
Unexpected, loud bangs, super bright flashes of light and the smell of gunpowder/smoke can put our pets in a lot of distress and can also disorientate them, causing unusual and sometimes destructive behaviours.

Some Safety Tips for your pet/s this NYE:
- Create a safe space for your fur baby! E.gs include a safe and cozy crate or room INSIDE of the house for them to hide in.

- Closing all windows, doors and curtains in attempts to sound proof and reduce visual stresses as best as possible.

- If possible, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PETS INDOORS. If you wish to join in on the festivities, it is recommended to leave your pets with a trained pet sitter or known member of the family.

- Always check your backyard the next day (before letting your pets out) for any potential foreign and hazardous materials and debris from the fireworks, as this can reduce the risk of your pets eating something they shouldn't. Avoiding a vet visit!

- Playing music or turning on the TV to muffle and mask the noise of the fireworks is always a good idea!

- If your pet is on anxiety medications, ensure you follow the recommended dosing instructions from your vet, as well as medicating on time!

- It's important to always keep your pet's microchip details up to date, incase of the unfortunate instance that your pet escapes.

A reminder to never punish your pets when they're scared, as this only makes things worse in the long run. Remember, one of the most fun times of year for you, is your pet's worst nightmare!
Have a safe and Happy New Year. We wish you all the best and look forward to welcoming you back into the clinic in 2025.
