Early this morning (January 12th), I spotted two bright green spots flapping around the water hole. It was a pair of Elegant Parrots. I've not seen any here in Thompson Beach since 2012. So this was a score. Photos are very heavily cropped to show the Parrots.

It's warming up, and warning about snakes have been issued. Please be careful, and watch your pets when out side, snakes are a danger for them too.

On a lighter note, the warmer weather brings out our stunning local lizards.

WARNING. It is illegal to take wildlife. In recent seasons people have been sighted trying to "steal" lizards from our local area. One group was very organised with bags to collect lizards into. Please don't take our lizards, thinking you can keep it as a pet either. Very large fines apply for stealing wildlife.

Be careful when driving on local roads around TB, as you will often see the slower Shingleback crossing or sunning on them. Please don't run over them, they are very easy to avoid as they are slow moving.

Aldo on the roads, warming up you might also see Blue Tongues.

Remember to look up into the bushes, as you will probably see a Bearded Dragon sitting sunning itself. They will also sit on the roads.

Our biggest local Lizard is the Sand Monitor, or Goanna. These can range in size, from 30 cm right up to 120 - 150 cm.

As always, watch out for the snakes, especially early in the season, as they often lay around warming up in the Sun. But remember it is illegal to kill a snake, unless you are threatened by it. Fines are around $10k.

A lovely Double Rainbow over Thompson Beach this afternoon. During its existence we were treated to a rare Triple Rainbow phenomenon, (second photo). The third rainbow can be seen sprouting from the base of the inner bow, it's faint but my camera picked it up okay.

Butcherbirds are native to the Thompson Beach area. They are cheeky at times, and have a beautiful haunting and melodic song, not dissimilar to the lilt in a Magpies' voice, but much more variety.

They are called Butcherbirds because they skewer their victims on to sharp twiggs to eat them or save them for later ... yuk.

This W***y Wagtail is not at all happy to have this Butcherbird hanging around, so it repeatedly dive bombed it to drive it away.
