I only made 2 mistakes my first time canning fruit. π
Thankfully both could be fixed along the way! ππ
They turned out amazing and I can't wait to have a taste test!! Any questions, let me know below. π -Christy
Our first official market at a venue was a success! With only having done market days from our driveway in the past, we were a little nervous to do a community market. But we're so glad we did! I worked every single night for a month on wreaths and bouquets in preparation, going to bed anywhere from 2am to 4am each night to be ready in time. Dan made all the amazing new wreath boxes. Don't they look fab! I had some friends help me with cutting the paper wraps and they repainted and did all my price pegs for me as I was running out of time. We had plenty of beautiful confetti, bouquets in 5 sizes and 20 wreaths too! It took 4 carloads to get it all there, but only 2 carloads to get home again. Lots of beautiful flowers went to new homes which we're grateful for!
We're planning on being back at @indigiscapes for another Eco Market in December. This time with some brand new Christmas pieces I'll be making soon!
I'm taking it a little bit easier this week spending time getting back on top of things! After such a crazy August I thought I'd give myself some grace this week! So if you need fresh flowers they are by order only.

Watch the downward progression of her mood on her face. π It's so cute and funny. Goes from beaming and excited, to throwing her apron off in a rage because her nappy feels funny and she has "a widgie" (wedgie). Note: everything is a wedgie when your nappy is sitting funny and you're 2! ππ
Needless to say I finished cooking on my own after a nappy change. π -Christy

Taking #franklinhomestead to the next level! Our logo, while simple, was a joint effort that took a loooooong time. What took the longest was agreeing and compromising on all the different aspects. Then I had to teach myself how to make a vector image. The flower part for the sunflower was actually drawn by Christy and then I converted the drawing. Solid team effort! π―
π± GETTING OUR NO TILL GARDEN BEDS READY FOR THE AUTUMN/WINTER SEASON π±
π This is the method we use that works fantastic for our no till method.
1. Firstly we aerate our soil gently using a garden fork. π§βπΎ This fluffs up the soil but also allows the amendments we add to get down into the deeper soil without disrupting the mycorhizal fungi.
2. Next we add a few inches of fresh high quality compost which has manures in it. π©ππ This gets raked out to create our nice flat squared off beds.
3. We add a generous layer of our homemade compost packed with nutrients and earthworms. πͺ±πͺ± Before adding it onto the garden beds, I sift out any rubbish, rocks or chunky pieces not yet fully broken down. This gets raked out flat also.
4. Lastly we cover everything up with a thick layer of sugar cane mulch. πΎ This helps us lock in that moisture, keep the weeds at bay and makes everything look nice and tidy (the way we like it). π Irrigation is put back in place, and we're ready to play seedlings! π±

If you'd asked me 2 years ago what my plans were in the garden I would have talked your ears off about growing veggies. Well that all changed one day whilst on YouTube. I had a suggested video in my feed about flower farming by You Can't Eat the Grass . Down the rabbit hole I went and we have now doubled our garden space to accommodate my newest passion
F L O W E R S!! πΈ
There's no going back now. I'm a flower lady! π
