Important things to know when finding your furever friend:
• who are the parents?
• how are they fed/treated?
• what health testing have they done/do they cover hereditary health issues?
• are they responsible and ensure first right of recovery?
• do they have a contract?
• where/what conditions are babies and parents kept?
• how much do they keep you in the loop?
We tick all these boxes with our families. We try to be fully transparent and share as much as possible as we are proud of the way we rear puppies. I send updates every week to our purchased families.
I miss sleep, family events, put my nutrition business completely on hold while we have puppies to ensure they receive the absolute best care and undivided attention.
Upset belly? I’m staying up late to home make pumpkin and bone broth.
Not gaining enough in the early days? I’m syringe or bottle feeding every two hours.
Need to make sure mum isn’t rolling on them in the early days? I’m sleeping beside the cage and up every hour to ensure everyone is safe.
In the poopapolooza (6-8 weeks) phase? I’m in the indoors kennel (4mx2m) every morning for two hours removing and washing soiled items, disinfecting and steam cleaning every surface and replacing everything to be new and fresh.
Our babies spend nights in here (9pm-7am) and during the day (at this age) are outside either in there own large entirely fenced off section of yard or out with mum and dad in the other section of yard.
(Note- our yard is fenced into two different sections to give us the ability to seperate where needed. If it’s cold or I am on the rare time not home babies are inside. Babies work up to being outside during the day spending gradual supervised amounts during the day from 5 weeks.)
Getting prepped for home day!
Our families are excited!
☀️ MORNING RESET ☀️
The puppies are toilet training and on average I’d say they use the grass about 80% of the time.
20% not using it for nine puppies still means a lot of poo in the mornings though 🫠💩(During the day we clean as we go but over night the mess builds up).
Every morning while the little ones have breakfast
▪️I remove all soiled items and bedding
▪️disinfectant and clean training grass
▪️disinfect the floor
▪️place clean bedding, fresh toilet areas and new daily toys.
Then every Sunday - we do a deep clean pulling everything up and thoroughly cleaning.
It’s a big job keeping these guys clean and tidy- lucky they’re cute!
Note: puppies aren’t in here constantly for those worried. They spend time outside bonding with mum and dad during the warmer part of the day 🐾☀️
Little Mack learning his name this week.
Aside from loving and caring for our babies until they go to their furever families
We try our best to start training them and make it easier for their new families. As soon as you have locked in your furry friend and let us know their name- we start teaching them.
We also do our best (with 9 of them😅) to get toilet training well on track for you and use normal commands (sit, stay, no) as much as possible on every day life in an attempt to lighten the load of your new addition.
And of course, we supply them with lots of toys and cuddles 😎🖤🐾
❌’ARE THEY GOOD WITH KIDS?’❌
A common question we get given the size of the dogs.
Let me give you a sneak peak of my assistant, she’s two and not only does she help (willingly) weigh puppies and clean whelping boxes, and keep puppies full of snugs (Aka do things for baby dogs)…
She’s outside every meal time with the big dogs helping, she’s outside every poo pick up time playing and bossing us about.
She’s interacting with all our dogs (big and little) every single day and has never been harmed or hurt by them. In fact, we feel her (and her brothers) are safer with our gentle giants around- they naturally view our children as family/pack members and protect them.
I will note (and these are important).
▪️ our dogs KNOW they are dogs and we are people- they know that human family members (even the smallest ones) are higher in the ‘pack’ then them and they will act/submit accordingly. We do not treat them like people. They have rules and know commands. Dogs are dogs, the need to be treated as so (especially big ones)
▪️ our kids know how to interact with dogs- we don’t let them be too rough with the dogs with the excuse of ‘toddler/child’, engage in behaviours that feel unpredictable/unsafe for the dog (eg- pulling at them, sitting on their backs ect), we always make sure the children are supervised with dogs, we ensure the kids know how to speak to dogs and give basic commands from young ages.
▪️the dogs all have training and now all basic commands and rules of the house.
▪️we remember the dogs ages- mastiffs grow quickly… they’re usually bigger than most dogs in size while still a small puppy in age. They often don’t know their size and power; when interacting with kids we take into account the age of the dog and age of the child to always ensure correct supervisors for both parties based on these factors.
So, in short- yes. They’re amazing with kids. Even though they are big- they are gentle. They natura
