Fun fact friday!
Did you know one of the most common pathogens in puppies and kittens are worms 🪱? This image may not look like worms, because they haven't grown yet - they are the eggs of a round worm; detected in a faecel 💩 sample of a patient.
These tiny little parasites latch onto the walls of your pets' digestive tracts and suck the blood, like tiny little internal leeches 🩸. Your pet may present with abdominal pain, a 'pot belly' and digestive upset (diarrhoea).
Between the fluid loss from the runs, the blood sucking and damage to the intestines, intestinal worms like round worms can actually be fatal! This is why for our puppies and kittens we commit to fortnightly worming. As they grow they can move onto monthly or 3 monthly worming; depending on their risk factors.
Most intestinal worms, like hook worms can be found in the soil, or as these eggs were; in the faeces of other animals. It is important to pick up after our pets, bag and dispose of waste to reduce spread; did you know YOU could also contract them from your pet? Always wash your hands after handling faecel matter, don't let your pets lick your face and keep you companions up to date on parasite control.
So call up today and see if your pet is up to date on worming.

Little miss Ellie had a big day on Friday! She got speyed but also had her hind dew claw removed. Why? Unfortunately they are just accident magnets, they get caught and can tear very easily, owners sometimes elect to remove them at the time of desexing as a health measure. To keep the site nice as clean and healthy it does require some bandaging - as feet move a lot and get very grubby - so we try to make the bandages are comfortable as possible for our fluffy mates, and as cute as possible for their human counterparts! How do you think we went with this converse style? #ProvetBandageArtAU #converse
An INCREDIBLY sped up summary of “a day with a dental”
These patients require just as much care as any other surgical patient, their anaesthetics can be quite long pending the extent of dental disease. We try to maximise their time under anaesthetic but checking the visible surface right through to xrays beneath. Patients receive oxygen and active warming before, during, and after their procedures. High levels of monitoring are performed, fluid therapy is administered and your pets status and care plan is always in discussion between the treating vet and monitoring nurse!
We pride ourselves on a high level of care, if you have any questions or want to book in for a FREE dental check then give us a call on (07) 46328333

Pregnancy confirmation ultrasound! From day 28+ we can determine whether or not a mating was a success, as you can see here Miss Emma is definitely pregnant! We found a few little babies in there, but you cannot do a fetal count on ultrasound, some home day 45+, once the babies skeletons have developed, we can X-ray mumma dog and get a count on roughly how many she’s carrying. Diagnostic imaging is VERY cool 😎 🐶 🐾
