☀️Charlie wants to remind all of his friends on the Surf Coast that with the hot weather predicted this weekend, extra steps need to be taken to ensure our pets safety! ☀️🐾
🐍 Stay away from long grass (especially near water sources) when out walking,
🏃🏻♀️ If you have to exercise your pets, do so ONLY in the mornings or evenings when the sun is lower, and find shady areas if you can,
🦶🏻Check how hot the footpath is before walking pets on it (if you can’t walk on it comfortably in bare feet, neither can your pet!),
🍼 Use pet safe sunscreen on any exposed pink noses (and other areas of skin),
💧 Ensure your pets have access to cool drinking water and shade throughout the day,
❗️Keep an extra close eye on bracychepahlic breeds, and young and elderly pets (both dogs and cats) as they can’t regulate their temperature as well as other animals,
🚿 Remeber that dogs and cats can’t sweat! Wet their feet, necks and belly’s to help cool them down if needed.
📚 Know the signs of snakebite and heatstroke and be prepared to act quickly if you suspect anything amiss with your furry family members!
As always we are open Saturdays 8:30-2pm, call us with any concerns or questions, and outside of these hours, contact Geelong Animal Emergency Clinic for advice and Emergencies!
