❌Behavioral changes ❌gunky eyes

Also a few added thing you can do to benefit your rabbits health:

✅Access to hard chewable items ✅Keep your rabbit away from wild rabbits

If you are ever concerned about your rabbits health, please do not hesitate in giving our clinic a call on 5261 4137 to have a chat and book an appointment.

🚫We DO NOT mess around when it comes to Snake Bites.🐍

Snake bites are often tricky to pinpoint, symptoms may begin immediately or within a few days. When it comes to treating snake bites, the earlier the treatment, the better the outcome.

If you see your pet around a snake, or a snake bite is suspected, it is always best to get to us immediately.

Not only will we closely monitor your pet but we can also check for other snake bite indicators, including muscle enzyme levels and clotting times.
We will also place a cathetor in your pets leg so if they deteriorate or a snake bite is likely/confirmed we can begin intravenous anti-venom immediately.

Here is Peggy and Gus sitting patiently whilst the team monitor them and run tests to rule out a snake bite after a close encounter.
Good News: They were just fine 🥰

Feeding Bones to your Dogs.

It is the age old debate, should I feed my dog bones?
Here are some facts we've compiled to help you make an informed decision.

1. Modern dog mouths are smaller and not shaped like their wolf ancestor, thus chewing bones is not good for dental hygiene as previously thought, it can actually be harmful causing tooth fractures, oral damage to the tongue soft palate and gums.

2. If bits of bone break off and your dog were to swallow them, depending on the shape and size of the bones, your dog could suffer esophageal and intestinal punctures and blockages, which are life threatening.

3. If the bones fed to your dog are not fresh, being meat there is a high risk for bacteria growth, including salmonella.

4. Dogs can become protective over their bone and this is often the cause of dog fights and injuries to people when trying to remove the bone from a dog.

5. If feeding bones, the bones must be raw, too big to swallow, always supervised and discarded of after use in the same sitting.

A HOME FOR YOUR RABBIT

Rabbits are a lot more curious and adventurous and need a lot more exercise than we give them credit for, so much so the government have created guidelines to follow when housing your pet rabbit. You can find all the requirements at https://tinyurl.com/3a2c789a

We've compiled a just few requirements below to ensure you have a happy and healthy bunny friendly environment.

🏠A place to be safe from; predators, extreme weather and extreme temperatures. (covered outdoor spaces, warm and cool spaces)
💧A clean space separate from toilet area to eat and drink
💭A space to rest and sleep (hatches, straw, boxes, shredded paper)
🐰A place to play and chew (tunnels, wood)

Although small, rabbits still need a good amount of space to do all the things they love. For one average rabbit the minimum flooring area is 2.6m2.

Some of the team rocking some fun scrub tops earlier this month 🩵🩷

For a few days each month, you may find us wearing some bright and colourful scrub tops!👚 The purpose behind us wearing these is to help initiate conversations, particularly those around mental health 💬

Mental health is a known concern within the vet industry in particular and we don’t want it to go unheard, so we will wear our loud and colourful tops 💞 Plus, who doesn’t love a fun scrub top!

An important reminder to treat everyone with kindness and to check in with yourself and others around you 💛💛

RABBIT EARS

Rabbits ears are so large and beautiful, but did you know they serve two functions!!

Function 1- Their ears can turn 180 degrees to exactly pinpoint where noise is coming from and to avoid a potential predator.

Function 2- Rabbits do not pant like dogs or sweat like humans, so they use the large surface area of the ears to radiate heat away from them if they are too hot.

🐾Let's hear it for paws🐾

Dog paws are truly wonderful, from walking, to digging, to climbing and holding treats, these appendages are truly awesome. There is one thing we can start to do to protect them every day that is as simple as standing up.

Every day (especially the warmer days) take your shoes off and trying standing on the concrete/sand/road and if it is too hot for your feet it is too hot for your dogs paws.☀️

Don't worry, as the sun disappears for the day, the ground gets cooler which will make a stroll much more comfortable for you and your furry friend. 🌔
