Tips on how to become more valuable to your dog 🤩🐾

So you think you have a strong relationship with your dog… but do they come when called? Or maybe they are “stubborn” and don’t always want to listen? Well here is how you can improve that ⬇️

1️⃣ Stop free feeding - When you feed from a bowl you are missing a great opportunity to improve your dogs handler focus. Getting your dog to work for their food instead will make you a hell of a lot more valuable! Ditch the bowl and use their daily food intake throughout the day. If you struggle for time, you can use that dinner period to make your dog work through an activity with you by hand feeding rewards 🍖

2️⃣ Play with your dog - Play is an essential part of a dogs well being and training doesn’t always have to be so serious. Simply by playing with your dog will help build a stronger bond between you both. Don’t be afraid to get silly! Show your dog who’s more exciting when you are out in distracting environments.

3️⃣ Provide more structure - Having a clear communication system with your dog is so important. Structure means that the dog can rely on you to create a dependable routine in your household and out in the world. It lowers the chance of anxiety and insecurity, it also helps build confidence in themselves and in you as a owner.

4️⃣ Advocate for your dog - Todays society often refers to dogs now as “furbabies” and as much as we love them as our own, we also need to acknowledge that they are a canine, not a human. We fit dogs into our human society and often expect them to behave accordingly in situations we think are normal. Being able to understand your dogs body language will help you learn what their likes/dislikes are. Our dogs depend on us to advocate for them when they are in uncomfortable situations, and by doing so they will have a lot more respect and trust in you as a handler.

5️⃣ Offer Enrichment - Dogs depend on us to enrich them and a backyard is not going to cut it. Dogs need more than that and they don’t have the free liberty us humans do. You are responsible for making sure they’re mentally/physically fulfilled and you will be the best person ever for doing so 💛
