We're back from our amazing trip to BC, Canada. What a beautiful country!
It was wet and cold for most of the trip and it was a glorious change from home.
Back to hot and dry conditions, waiting for the rainy season to start. ☚ī¸
The animals were very glad to see us back home and my sister did a brilliant job looking after the place.

We might go on another adventure again soon! 😁

We're on holidays! We're tripping around BC Canada. We even made it into Alberta for a few days.
It's a lot colder than we're used to and just incredible!
The horses and dogs are being well looked after by my wonderful sister. As long as she remembers to shut the gates (oops) all will go well at Birdsong Park. 😁😁

Elvis is transitioning so well from shoes to barefoot!
I had to separate the 3 boys due for vaccines from the herd while we waited for the vet.
Seeing him canter up the gravel driveway made me smile. He's so comfortable in his feet now. ❤ī¸â¤ī¸

Well, that's unusual!
Significant rain at this time of year is very unexpected in the tropics.
I certainly feel for the local farmers around us who are currently trying to harvest!
Only the graziers will be happy.
And the crazy horse ladies.....😁😁

I love this time of the morning. Pre dawn. Not even the birds are awake. The stars are shining and it's the promise of a new day.

Lit up by all the lights hubby has put up for me so I don't trip over a snake! Lol 😁

Webinar on the 14th August (in Australia, starting at 8am): Feeding for Special Needs. This webinar will focus on feeding some of the special needs cases, including horses that are predisposed to tying up from genetic issues (RER, PSSM, EPSM) or non-genetic related issues, feeding to prevent and manage ulcers, and feeding older horses that are less able to extract nutrients and energy from forage.

There will be an in-depth look at the best approach for feeding insulin resistant/laminitic prone horses covering appropriate feeds and supplements.

Plus plenty of time to ask questions about your situation.
It will be recorded.

Losing horses is never easy. Not for me. Not for the herd.
We all grieve and the herd can take weeks to go back to its relaxed, comfortable state. This is our 3rd time in under 2 years and it doesn't get easier.

We lost Red yesterday. A lovely old horse I rescued. She loved to be brushed and touched and loved her twice daily feeds. She thrived on attention and seemed so grateful for all we did for her. She was affectionate and kind. She was well loved.

I knew losing her was inevitable. That's what we face as animal lovers, but you can never prepare.
We'll miss her enormously and now put our energies into supporting her friends while they adjust to life without her.

Who's Who on the track today:

This is Elvis.
He's come to us while his Mum goes on deployment overseas. He's an absolute sweetheart and it's impossible to not fall in love with him. He loves a good scratch and will show you exactly where you need to scratch him each time. 😁

The time with us was a great opportunity to transition him to barefoot after a lifetime of shoes. He's handling the transition extremely well on our sandy clay tracks.

He's come from traditional Agistment where he had his own small paddock with other horses sometimes near, but out of reach. He wasn't happy in this environment.

He now has Friends, Forage and Freedom (the pillars of horse care) and is thriving in a herd. He loves a good play and romp with his multiple friends in the herd.

We're all very pleased with his excellent progress and how well he fits in.

We love it when we meet friends along the way. 😁đŸ¤Ŗ

It's been very hot this last week as we've waited for Tropical Cyclone Kirrily to reach the coast. Tonight is finally the night she arrives as a severe tropical cyclone.
The horses are in the big front paddock, all fly masks and mesh rugs removed and we've packed up all loose items.
Now we sit and wait out the storm.
It's going to be a long night.
