There is a current TikTok trend encouraging people to leave out human hair removed from brushes, for birds to use as nesting material.
However well meaning, this is harmful to our avian population, particularly in small birds. Human hair is extremely strong, and the birds legs become entangled, with no way for the bird to remove the hair, leading to constrictions, infections and loss of digits or feet. The hair may also be contaminated with hair products harmful to small birds.

*Edited to add that this also applies to pet hair, even if short pet hair may be contaminated with flea treatment or other harmful chemicals .*
