As advocates for cats we highly recommend keeping your cat indoors so they are safely contained from other cats - this will prevent cat fight injuries!

Cats who roam and fight can lead to cat scratches and bites that can cause puncture wounds in the skin. These wounds are prone to painful infections within the tissues due to bacteria carried on the claws and teeth of other cats. When the infection leads to a lump under the skin full of pus, it is referred to as abscesses - our advice - SEE YOUR VET RIGHT AWAY! These abscesses require veterinary treatment such as cleaning, drainage and antibiotics, with some cases requiring a stitch up or surgery.

According to the RSPCA, some infections do not cause an abscess but still cause significant inflammation and pain; when this infection is localised it is called cellulitis. Signs that your cat may have an abscess or cellulitis include pain, swelling, fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, tooth marks or scabs on the skin, foul smell or discharge.
As well as the localised pain, discomfort and tissue damage, these infections can sometimes have potentially serious systemic effects.

👉 Preventing unwanted kittens
👉 Prevent reproductive cycle behaviours such a going on heat, yowling and crying
👉 Less likely to roam amongst other cats causing fights
👉 Less likely to show aggressive behaviour towards others
👉 Less likely to be exposed to injury and infectious disease (FIV/feline AIDs)
👉 In males they are less likely to spray urine and mark their territory
👉 Reduce the risk of potentially serious health issues such as mammary cancer and uterine infections

With so much information out there and lots of products on the market claim to cover "everything" how do you choose the right one?

There are many types of worms including hookworms, whip worms and round worms etc. But what about tapeworm? And which product covers what?

𝗪𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿:
1. Fleas
2. Ticks
3. Worms
4. Tapeworm (Spirometra)

Fleas, Ticks and Worms can be covered with your over the counter parasite control from any pet supply company however, Spirometra Tapeworm (the ones they get from frogs and geckos) cannot be prevented - by any product, even those that say tapeworm (that is the other kind!) However, it CAN be treated with medication you can collect over the counter from the VET ONLY.
