🐈🐾🐈‍⬛The Importance of Speying Your Cat🐈🐾🐈‍⬛

Did you know that a female cat can get pregnant just weeks after giving birth? Unlike dogs, cats have a very different reproductive cycle, making them much more likely to have multiple litters in a year. This contributes significantly to the stray cat population, which is why spaying your cat is so important.

🐈Understanding a Cat’s Heat Cycle🐈
Female cats (queens) are seasonally polyestrous, meaning they go into heat multiple times during the breeding season, typically from spring to early autumn. Unlike dogs, which have distinct heat cycles only once or twice a year, a cat's cycle is much more frequent.

🐾Key points about a cat’s reproductive cycle:🐾
Cats can go into heat every 2–3 weeks if they are not bred.
They don’t ovulate until they mate, which means they can continue cycling until they become pregnant.
After giving birth, a cat can return to heat in as little as 2–3 weeks, allowing her to become pregnant again while still nursing kittens.
This means an unspayed female cat can have three or more litters per year, with an average of 4–6 kittens per litter. That’s dozens of kittens in just a few years!

🐾How This Affects the Stray Cat Problem🐾
Because cats can reproduce so quickly, it’s easy for their population to grow out of control. Many kittens born outside don’t survive due to disease, predators, or lack of food, but those that do often continue the cycle of unchecked breeding.

🐾Unwanted litters contribute to🐾
Overcrowded shelters
Increased stray populations
Health risks for kittens and mother cats

🐾The Solution: Spaying Your Cat🐾
Spaying (ovariohysterectomy) is a simple procedure that removes the ovaries and uterus, preventing future pregnancies. It offers many benefits:
✅ Prevents unwanted litters
✅ Reduces the risk of certain cancers and infections
✅ Eliminates heat-related behaviors like yowling and roaming
✅ Helps control the stray cat population

The best time to spey your cat is before her first heat cycle, typically around 4–6 months of age, but adult cats can be speyed at any time.

By speying your cat, you’re not just preventing unwanted pregnancies—you’re helping to reduce the number of stray and abandoned cats in our community. If you have any questions about the procedure or want to book an appointment, contact us today!

💖🍫🌹 Happy Valentine's Day from Vet2UrPet! 🌹🍫💖

Valentine’s Day is full of sweet treats, but as much as we love chocolate, it's a big no-no for pets. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which are toxic to dogs and cats. The amount of chocolate needed to cause harm depends on the type and size of your pet, but even small amounts can lead to some serious issues.

❌🍫 Signs of chocolate toxicity in pets can include:🍫☑️❌

☑️Vomiting or diarrhea
☑️Restlessness or hyperactivity
☑️Rapid breathing or panting
☑️Tremors or seizures
☑️Increased heart rate
☑️Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are particularly dangerous because they contain higher levels of theobromine compared to milk chocolate.

🛑 What to do if your pet eats chocolate: 🛑
If you suspect your pet has eaten chocolate, it's important to act fast! Contact us immediately or call your local emergency vet. They may recommend inducing vomiting or other treatments to prevent serious health complications.

💐 Let’s keep our pets safe and healthy while we enjoy the Day. Happy Valentine’s Day to all our fur-parents out there! 💐

💤 Vet visits are exhausting... even when you're this cute! 😴💕

Little Saffron, just couldn't keep her eyes open and dozed off in Mum’s arms while waiting for her appointment. Being adorable is hard work, after all! 🐶💖

We think she’s got the right idea—cuddles and naps make everything better. Who else has a pup that can sleep anywhere? Share your snoozy pet pics with us! 📸🐾

🐾 Meet Hamish, the tiniest bottle baby with a big name! 🍼🐱

Our vet nurse Erin has a little tradition—naming her foster kittens after the staff’s children. This time, she’s chosen Hamish, named after one of the boss ladies boys! (Don’t worry, the human Hamish is much tidier with his milk… we think! 😉)

Fostering tiny kittens like Hamish takes a lot of love, patience, and, as you can see, plenty of milk! 🩵 Let’s give Erin a round of applause for her dedication to these little ones. 👏

💖 Free Heartworm Testing – Protect Your Pet’s Heart This Valentine’s! 💖

Love is in the air… but so are the mosquitoes! 🦟 With all the recent rain, mosquito numbers are rising, which means a higher risk of heartworm disease for our furry friends.

❤🪱What is heartworm disease?❤🪱
Heartworm is a serious, potentially fatal disease spread by mosquito bites. These worms grow in the heart and lungs, causing severe health issues—and it can be deadly if left untreated.

🩸🧪How do we test?🧪🩸
A quick blood test detects heartworm in just 10 minutes! And this February and March, thanks to Zoetis, we’re offering FREE heartworm testing—for pets who are switching from monthly prevention to the yearly injection. 💉

The annual injection provides long-lasting protection against heartworm, so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet’s heart is safe. ❤️🐶🐱

Show your pet some love this Valentine’s—book their Heartworm injection and free test today!

📅 Available all February and March. Promotion ends 31/3/25
