Tuggerah Veterinary Clinic

Tuggerah Veterinary Clinic Conveniently located next to the bakery on Anzac Road. Please call (02) 4353 9414 to make an appointment. This is for the safety of patients, clients and staff.
(7)

Our team of 2 full-time veterinarians and 7 veterinary nurses is committed to providing a friendly, caring and professional veterinary service. Making an appointment will help us to minimise your waiting time, and thereby lessen any stress felt by your pet during his/her visit. Walk-in patients are generally seen after scheduled appointments. However, emergency cases are given priority and will be

attended immediately. While we make every effort to keep appointments running on time, complicated or emergency cases can sometimes result in delays, and your patience at these times is appreciated. Home and farm visits can also be arranged, and incur an additional travel fee. Please note that in many cases we would prefer to see your pet at the clinic, where we have full access to all staff and equipment. You may want to consider a (non-affiliated) pet taxi service if you are having difficulty transporting your pet. All dogs must be restrained on a leash and all cats (and other pets) restrained in an appropriate carrier prior to entry into the clinic. Leashes and carriers are available for loan/hire if you have not brought your own. The majority of our patient load consists of companion animals – dogs and cats. We also treat a variety of exotic pets (including birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, mice and rabbits), and perform a limited amount of large animal work. Native animals will also be treated before being released to WIRES for rehabilitation. In the event of an emergency outside of our normal opening hours, please phone the Animal Emergency Centre Central Coast (AEC), which can be reached at (02) 4323 3886. The AEC is located at Home Central Shopping Centre, Unit 8a 356 Manns Road, West Gosford NSW 2250. Please note that this is for emergencies only and an after-hours surcharge will apply. We are not open on public holidays.

Interestingly, a strong purr is not just behaviour seen in domestic cats; it is observed in wild cats, too, albeit with some differences.

So why do cat’s purr? Such a seemingly simple question actually opens the door to a fascinating world of feline communication: https://nexgard.com.au/pet-care/cat-care/why-do-cats-purr

🦷 Bad breath isn’t just unpleasant, it can be unhealthy! If you’ve noticed a change in your pet’s breath, discoloured or stained teeth, or discomfort when they eat, your pet could be experiencing periodontal disease.

Like us, dogs and cats need regular dental check-ups and cleanings to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Professional dental cleaning removes plaque and tartar buildup that cannot be removed with brushing and dental treats.

Book a FREE dental check today and take advantage of our $50 discount on a scale and polish during July and August. Let’s get those chompers sparkling! ✨

According to Central Coast Council, up to 1000 cats and dogs wait patiently for a forever home in Council‘s Animal Care Facilities throughout each year. 🙀

If you’re considering desexing your pet, the benefits include:
💫 Limits the number of abandoned and unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.
💫 It can improve behaviour as pets are less likely to develop aggressive tendencies toward people and other animals, mark their territory, stray or develop certain types of cancers.
💫 Discounts are available on the compulsory council pet registration fee for desexed pets.

If you need more information on desexing, please phone our clinic to chat with our friendly team.

Just like us, our furry friends crave a mix of physical and mental workouts. While outdoor adventures are unbeatable, we know it can be hard to keep up with daily walks as the days get shorter. Luckily there are plenty of indoor tricks to keep your pup engaged!

🏠✨ Perhaps explore food puzzles, training exercises, scent work, or good ol' playtime to make indoor time as enriching as their outdoor escapades.

Let the indoor adventures begin! 🐕💡

❄️ Winter can be tough on pets, especially older ones. If your pet is finding it harder to get out of bed or showing signs of discomfort or stiffness this Winter, we’re here to help.

Look out for these signs:
- Reluctance to jump into the car, up onto furniture or climb stairs.
- Lowering down slowly to lie down then falling in a heap.
- Slow to get up and walk.
- Slowing down or refusing to continue on long walks.
- Crying or whining during movement.

These signs may be due to aging, injuries, genetics or an underlying medical condition. We can assist with identifying the cause and provide a proactive care plan to enhance their quality of life. 🐶🐱

❄️ Brrrr! Winter is coming and even though your furry friends may have a ‘built-in coat’ it’s still a good idea to be mindful of how you can keep them as warm and comfortable as possible.

Our top 5 winter warmer tips:
🐾🧤 Bring them inside if possible, on chilly days/nights to protect them from the elements.
🐾🧤 For outdoor pets, provide insulated shelter with soft bedding.
🐾🧤 Invest in winter clothing like coats or jumpers, especially for older or short-haired pets.
🐾🧤 Adjust walk times to warmer parts of the day or shorten walks to limit cold exposure.
🐾🧤 Skip the shave! Regular brushing prevents matting without compromising warmth.

Caring for a senior pet marks a significant stage in every pet parent’s journey. As our furry companions grow older, they change, and their needs evolve too.

🥣 Food & Water: Monitor their eating and drinking and mention any changes to eating habits or weight to our vets as there could be an underlying issue.
🐕 Exercise: Give them regular, gentle exercise and go at your pet’s pace.
😴 Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, in a quiet draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
🩺 Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, are particularly important for senior pets as they are more prone to illness and ailments (every six months is ideal).

If you have any concerns about your senior dog, please book your pet in for an appointment. Our vets can provide advice and treatments to help your dog enjoy their twilight years with comfort and joy. 🐾

As your cat ages, their needs evolve. Here are our top tips for taking care of your cat during their senior years:

🥣 Food & Water: Ensure seniors eat and drink enough. Offer small, frequent meals and accessible water.
😸 Playtime: Keep them active with gentle play, improving muscle tone and circulation.
😴 Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
🩺 Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, every six months catch issues early.

By recognising and addressing the specific needs of senior cats, you can ensure they enjoy a comfortable and fulfilling life in their later years.
