If you’d like to hear our origin story and some rambling, I had a chance to have a chat with my good friends at The Canine Paradigm last week.

We were thrilled to welcome Caisey Cainan, a friend of the show and one of the world’s most renowned big cat trainers. Caisey’s journey into the fascinating world of big cats began in his childhood when he ran away to join a circus. It was there that he met his first mentor, a pivotal figure in his life who tragically lost his life to a tiger. This harrowing incident deeply impacted Caisey and set him on the path to becoming a big cat trainer, driven by a desire to honor his mentor’s legacy and improve safety and training standards in the field.

Caisey shared captivating stories from his time in the circus, providing a rare glimpse into the unique challenges and rewards of training big cats. Moreover, his passion for these majestic animals was evident as he discussed the intricacies of building trust and communication with them.

Transitioning from big cats, Caisey has now dedicated his expertise to professional and sporting dog training in Australia. He spoke about how the skills and lessons learned from big cat training have seamlessly translated into his work with dogs, bringing a unique perspective and approach to the field. Therefore, join us for an inspiring episode as Caisey Cainan shares his incredible journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

Working on some leash reactivity with Taika. We try to keep excitement levels pretty low when we are working on reactivity. Just at the edge of thresholds. Rinse and repeat while moving the threshold

We don’t just train pet dogs! This weekend five dogs from our club are showing at the Iron Fist PSA trial in Sydney. We have dogs testing for PDC, Level 1, and Level 2. If you were ever curious of what exactly PSA is and what is being tested in the levels, this video is a great explanation from the OG of the sport. We have really worked hard for the last couple years to get PSA going here in Australia, and I think we’ve seen that to fruition. There are now 5 registered clubs and multiple trials a year with international and local judges and decoys. If PSA interests you, come watch a trial, join a club, do cool s**t with your dog! Lone Star is proud to be a sponsor of the 2024 Iron Fist PSA trial, and we hope you all can make it!

PSA is the fastest growing protection sport in the world! Let the Executive Director Jerry Bradshaw explain what it is and how you can get involved. 🙏 Thank...

Helping dogs and their people live better lives together every single day

We do a lot of shaping here.

Meet Bluey! Bluey is a very anxious border collie in need of some life skills and confidence. He needs to learn he can get it right and how. He’s doing great so far.

Sunday funday!

Bear and Penny learning to go do fun things together. One of the best ways to get dogs to see value in other dogs is having them do things they both enjoy together.

Rain and mud doesn’t stop the slatmill

Spent the morning with this beautiful bully named Boy and his owner working on his dog aggression and reactivity.

What we’ve been up to this week

12/10/2022

We haven’t had a slatmill race in awhile. I’ve been in Sydney doing Mondio Ring with my boy Zeusy. The girls have been running the doggos every night on the mill, but I didn’t have them video and time the first km. Here’s tonight’s race. Well done Lala!

It may be school holidays for all the kids, but Jax and Nova are busy studying here. Walking off leash in the Illinbah Valley with cows, ducks, and roos around every corner.

This is the progression of Salvey in a week. He came here scared of everything in the world and would react quite aggressively at any new stimulus (people or dogs). When we picked him up he couldn’t go for a walk because of that aggression. The first clip is his first walk here and he was suspicious of everything. A week later he is starting to believe that humans and dogs he doesn’t know might actually lead to good experiences. Good job being a brave boy Salvey.

Busy week at the farm. Katrina is on holidays but we’re still getting in the repetitions. By “we” I mean the tall, skinny, fat guy in the video 🤣

06/09/2022

Today was all socialization. We had a group at the park, then came home and had some really good results with a couple previously dog fearful dogs. A great day!

Even on Fathers Day!

02/09/2022

This weeks slatmill race results. We took the home team dogs out of the race to make it more fair.

Meet Maple. Maple is scared of the whole world. Today was her first day out in town with us and she did wonderful! She met some people. She met a couple dogs. She stayed cautious but calm and quiet. I would normally NEVER let the random dog in the video make contact with a reactive/scared dog but in this situation it was the best thing to do. Maple showed no sign of fear or aggression towards him as he pulled his owner towards us and they yelled “he’s friendly!!!”. Maybe it was breed specific (Dacshunds like Dacshunds) but for what ever reason she wasn’t stressed and their encounter went well. Maple has come a great distance in a short time and we are hopeful she continues showing confidence and calm when out and about.

I love the end of this video. Flynn and Greg are both fear reactive and aggressive towards dogs on leash. Both would have likely told you they needed to show that behavior to keep them safe from other dogs they meet on walks. What I love about this video is you can clearly see at around the 36 second mark when Greg looks back at Flynn who is still walking away and he realizes that he is still safe and even though he didn’t show any aggression in passing. He even trots and gets visibly excited. Now we just need a lot more reps.

Does your dog lose its mind when you see another dog on a walk?

This is Greg. Greg is here to learn how to control himself in the presence of other dogs. Cinnamon is just the dog to help teach him that. She has helped me with so many dogs like this she knows exactly how much space to give a dog to avoid going over threshold. Good session Greg and thanks Cinnamon!

Meet Arco! Arco is a beautiful Dutch Shepherd we have the privilege of training here. He is a strong boy so today we are working on his leash communication

17/08/2022

Katrina putting in the miles. Every step is a step closer to a good habit of loose leash walking.
