Great lesson today with Geraldine Van Montfrans at the fabulous covered arena at Performance Warmbloods. Superbly organised, as always, by Ange Beresford.

My favourite way to describe creating and keeping a forward feeling contact.

My favourite way to describe creating and keeping a forward feeling contact.

To improve the position and forward aspect of your hands...

Imagine home base for your hands as a square in front of your saddle that is even with the width and height of your hips. Always keep your hands in the home-base square with the feeling that you are pushing a shopping cart forward.—Melissa Allen

The best way to ride......even if it's just down the road!

To steer your horse and direct his energy toward your line of travel without losing alignment …

Imagine channeling him between your shoulders, elbows, knees and feet.—Annie Morris

This rider was one of the demonstration riders at the recent Charlotte master-class in Qld. When I first saw this picture I thought WOW! The first comment was: Lovely frame. This is how they should look.....it should be taught to all the judges......
REALLY? Like we didn't know? I am so sick of judges being the most evil people in dressage. We unfortunately can't take a picture of one moment in time and either put someone on a pedestal or hang them out to dry. We have to judge entire movements throughout an entire test. We make quick fire decisions AND have to explain them in under 6 mins up to 40 times in a day. It takes years to do this with confidence and correct understanding. We give up our time to attend training, we barely cover our costs when we attend a competition and if you're like me and are self employed, you often lose money to be able to go and judge.
So next time you want to give out about judges, how about you take the time to pencil so you realise just how much we have to take in, or better yet, if you're a keyboard warrior who think you can do better, become a judge. Be the change you want to see.

I'm sure I've shared this one before but it's one of my favourites!

To improve your ability to ride with a forward tendency in your arms ...

Imagine your hands, in riding position, pushing against an imaginary wall. This will give you the right feeling and, at the same time, will lengthen your back and help you sit deeper.—Susanne von Dietze

Troop horses Arnie, Prince, Lofty and Navajo are heading over to Moore Park today to patrol around the Sydney Cricket Ground for the Pink Test.
They are looking the part in their pink saddlecloths, boots and scarves. 💓 🌸 💓
The Pink Test has helped the McGrath Foundation raise over 22 million dollars for research into breast cancer.

Hope you're all making better decisions then me this New Years day!

The seat bone seems to me like one of the most important aids the rider has. How do I weight it correctly when riding a volte, circle or shoulder-in?

Check out these dressage exercises from top German judge and trainer Christoph Hess, which can be helpful for combinations at any level

This Olympian urges riders to refine their aids and have high expectations to increase the horse’s mental understanding.
