We have many posts about mumma cats and cute kittens but thought we'd like to share the other half of the equation.
Walter and his sister came to us last week from a very sad home environment. He was clearly unwell so off to The Cat Clinic for a checkup. Well, he had lots more issues than we suspected.
*Severe cat flu
*Severe dental damage including missing teeth
*Old injury to eye
*Urine scalds on back legs.
*Very malnourished
*Fur in extremely bad condition, as well as urine stained.
All this and we suspect he's only between 6 and 12 months old!😪 Even at this young age he may very well have fathered kittens, probably on his mother and sisters. Unfortunately cats do not understand human taboos.
Despite all his health issues, and clearly feeling ill, he purred while being checked by our awesome Dr Gabby.
Walter is now on antibiotics (twice a day), and will need more vet visits in coming weeks, including expensive dental surgery.😔
As he is not desexed and has been around other undesexed cats, he will have an FIV test next trip to vet.
All this could have been prevented if owners got all their cats desexed, including the males.
Oh, and we forgot to mention the smell🤢

So sad. Poor little munchin. What are urine scalds? How are they caused? (I mean, I can imagine, but please explain).

Ally Hughes it's a bit like nappy rash. Urine scalds are a type of dermatitis that irritates the skin and causes hair loss. We suspect this poor lad was confined to a cage in terrible conditions. Normally only an issue for orphaned kittens that can't clean themselves. 😪
