Underneath all the fluff, Bear is surprisingly lean. We noticed he's a 'grazer' and would take all day to eat his breakfast ... until today!
We've found something he looooves, so he should start to fill out soon 😀 This beautiful boy will be available for adoption next week.

Today we received an interesting private donation - a wheelchair for dogs. We don't currently have a need for it, but we accepted it so we can make it available to others. I know a number of rescues are amongst our followers - if you have a need for this in the future, please get in touch! We'll happily pass it along.

In more good news, Rusty (now Missy) went on trial this weekend. She joins a household with another cattle dog called May.
Introductions went well - "She's stalking May. She's meet the horses. She's interested so needs some work. But she'll be fine. May has met her match. Lots of playing."
Then today "Far more engaged this morning. Leaving the horses alone and hanging by me alot. She's a sweetheart. We've decided to call her Missy and it gets her attention which is great. But so do treats. You've done a great job. She sits every time she comes up to me."

If you have been thinking about adopting, now is a good time 🎄
The number of people surrendering animals spikes at this time of the year.
Rescues are full and for groups who have foster carers, there is extra pressure as some carers take a well-earned break at this time of year.
Many pounds are also full and some shut for a couple of weeks during this period and need to be cleared by then. This creates a frenzy for rescue groups who try to get as many animals as possible to safety before time runs out.
A pet is not just for Christmas but for a lifetime, however its happily-ever-after can start at this time of year.
This is one of the extras we are squeezing in. She was abandoned in poor condition at a caravan park in a remote town. Name suggestions? Maybe a Christmas theme?

Well, hello there! This absolutely gorgeous boy came into care today with the help of a friend who transported him part way. Bear is 5 years old. Maybe part border collie, part retriever but definitely 100% stunner 😍

We are taking applications for these little munchkins now. They are just gorgeous but remember they are working breed puppies and will require committed, ongoing training from someone knowledgeable. On Wednesday we became aware of litter of border collie x kelpie pups that needed help urgently. A team effort - which involved another rescue, a temporary foster carer and a volunteer who kindly helped with transport - resulted in this trio coming into care here. They have settled in and will be available to suitable homes in two weeks. The brown pups are male and the black pup is female.

Piper arrived underweight, with a dry coat and flakey skin but ... watch this space 😀
She has been wormed and is on a good diet now and she'll look amazing in no time.
She has a sweet nature, gets along well with other dogs and will make a lovely addition to a family.

Rusty was found when a storm passed through the town she came from and taken to the pound. No-one came for her, so now she's with us to find her forever home as soon as her vet work is completed.

Let's look at the numbers - Miles was the 500th animal to come into care at Red Dot. And now he's living a 10 out of 10 life 💕
It was confirmed today - he has been adopted. His new lifestyle consists of 'working' on site, coastal walks, games with mates and a comfy spot on the bed. Happy days 🐾

Rocky has settled into care so well. He's a friendly, lovely natured dog.
He picked up crate training immediately. He has the basics already and we're working on his overexcitement when meeting new people, dogs and ... his kryptonite ... cats. Given there's some Labrador in his breeding, it's no surprise he is food motivated which is a great help! This is former Red Dot dog Opal's first trip to the beach. She is certainly a long way from the far western NSW pound she and her bother came from - both in distance and circumstance! Red Dot adopters are the best 💕

Beautiful Ollie was desexed yesterday. Everything went well and she is back to her usual sweet self. This photo is from her former owner who said "The wooden box is an old drawer that I was setting up as a nesting box for the chooks but Ollie evidently thought the straw looked comfy." The black dog, Rocky, is a three year old retriever x kelpie who arrived in care today. Gizmo wasn't quite sure what to make of his antics at first. Maybe it was Rocky's gymnastics that won him over 🤷‍♀️ Whatever it was, the end result was two worn out dogs 😀

This is the beautiful Ollie who has been entrusted to us to find her a new home. She is nearly six and has the sweetest nature. She also LOVES water and will take the opportunity to immerse herself in it at any opportunity - even if it is a bit of a squeeze. She will be available for adoption soon.

Willa is up to her old tricks. In care, she would steal socks and stockpile them on the lounge. On trial, I'm told "she likes to move all her toys from their box to either the lounge or her crate 😅". Things are going well. Fingers crossed for this match.

Ronnie is as good as new. Actually, better than new 💪 He had the best possible treatment for his cruciate ligament (TPLO) and now has a titanium plate that stabilises his joint, which allows the leg to return to normal function, which Ronnie's certainly has! Plus, his fur has grown back. It's hard to even tell which leg it was now 🤷‍♀️

Jess went on trial on the weekend. She joins a household with Red Dot golden oldie, Hazel, a young kelpie rescue, Alice, and a couple of cats. Here are some snippets from the updates I have received... 💕
"Going well! Bitey face underway. Alice is thrilled to have a companion to share the fun... I’ve long given up pretending the living room is for humans! ... Jess does excellent head tilting... is really affectionate with us all... Any chance of a cuddle and she’s there! ... Cats are not on her radar so far, (it's) as though they don't exist."

Willa went on trial this afternoon 💕 She has come such a long way from the scared dog that arrived in care 14 weeks ago with three others. A huge shout-out to her foster carer who earned her trust and revealed her sweet, affectionate nature and playful side. And a huge thank you to her prospective adopter who has given her a chance to see how they 'click'. As always, if it doesn't work out, she simply comes back here until we find her the perfect situation. Fingers crossed for this match.
