WERI - Merredin Ride

Last weekend Tash and Joe (Sundale Bellagio) and Jan head east to the Van Udens farm for the WERI Merredin Ride.

With the 160km ride starting at midnight, poor Joe had a case of FOMO when his training buddies headed out without him.🫣

Saddling up in the rain, it was a wet and muddy couple of hours on leg 1, before the sun came out on leg 2. After 6hrs 30mins of riding Tash & Joe crossed the finish line to finish 1st HW and were awarded Best Conditioned HW.

At presentations we were surprised to learn Joe had received the highest Best Conditioned score in the 80km ride which was sponsored by M Equestrian, on behalf of Mel we paid this forward to the next highest scoring 🐎.

Big shout out of thanks to the sponsors of our place awards Living Horse Tails β€’ Jewellery by Monika and Poseidon Equine and Equident who sponsored of our Best Conditioned Rug.

This was another great ride put on by the Wheatbelt Endurance Riders Inc. and the Van Uden family and we can’t forget their neighbour who graciously opened up their properties for us to ride on πŸ™Œ

Thank you to our personal sponsors TuffRock Australia and M Equestrian for keeping Joe in top order for his competitions.

WERI - Gidgegannup Ride

Delayed post from a fortnight ago where Tash and Joe (Sundale Bellagio) headed 15mins around the corner to the WERI Gidgegannup Ride at held and Tegan and Zac’s property Baderwadding Spring.

It is 15yrs since the last endurance ride was held in Gidge and while the ride base was different many of the tracks were the same.

Usually by this time of the year there has been some rain to soften the ground but with nothing since November last year and high temperatures again, it was a case of riding to the conditions across both legs, making use of the ample water and feed offered at the checkpoints.

After a 5am start Tash and Joe cross the finishing line in a time of 7hrs 20mins to be placed 1st HW and were also awarded Best Conditioned HW.

Rides like this don’t happen without considerable support from sponsors and we are greatly appreciative of Baderwadding Spring for the beautiful cutting board and wine glasses we received as our 1st place award and West Core Drilling for sponsoring Joe’s Best Conditioned Rug.

It was a bit of a family affair at the ride with AJ Photos on course capturing memories for the riders & M Equestrian a sponsor for the 80km event, set up with a trade stand.

Thank you to the Wheatbelt Endurance Riders Inc. team for putting on another fantastic ride, with special thanks to
Tegan, Zac, Ian, Deb and the kids for putting so much work in to make this event happen.

As always the support from both M Equestrian & TuffRock Australia is greatly appreciated for keeping Joe in such fantastic condition.

Collie Easter Marathon

With the cancellation of the Wilga Ride 2 weeks ago, the 2024 Endurance season for Tash & Joe (Sundale Bellagio) kicked off with the 240km Marathon at Collie.

Thankfully the relentless Perth summer has provided plenty of opportunity to train in both the heat and humidity as the weather forecast for the weekend was more suited to a beach side holiday than endurance riding πŸ₯΅

Setting off at 3am Friday Tash and Joe along with Shirley and Sunny the only other rider doing the big marathon had a bright moonlight to guide them around the course before returning to ride base blanketed in heavy fog. While Leg 2 started off in the fog it quickly warmed up despite traveling along shaded tracks.

Day 1 - 80km done, with a 44hr off both legs. 160kms to go.

Another 3am start Saturday with both horses traveling well even though the humidity was 93%. Joe was feeling a little too good on this leg, depositing Tash on the ground as the sun was coming up πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. While the humidity dropped on Leg 2 the temperature climbed to 30 degreesπŸ₯΅

Day 2 - 160km done, with a 44hr off both legs. 80kms to go.

It was a much cooler start at 3am Sunday, making for perfect riding conditions. With Shirley carrying a riding injury and needing to spend a bit more time walking, they both continue their rides by themselves. With a bounce in his stride Joe looked and felt like he was doing 80km not finishing a 240km marathon.

Day 3 240km completed πŸ™Œ, 44hr off Leg 1 & 46hr off Leg 2.

Joe was rewarded for his fantastic recoveries by gaining both the 240km Best Managed Marathon Horse and the 240km Marathon Lowest Heart Rate awards.

The biggest reward though for the weekend was Joe reaching his 3000km milestone.

It goes without saying that having a great team behind you makes rides entertaining, enjoyable and efficient and this weekend was no different, with Jodi, Jan and the Pudwell family Jem, James, Evie and Logan all part of the action.

Thank you to WAERA for running the ride, the SES for manning the checkpoints, the Vets for looking out for our horses and all the volunteers, without you there would be no rides.

Special shout out to both Bonnie Martin & Carol Grgic for the sponsorship of Joes awards.

As always thank you to our personal sponsors M Equestrian and TuffRock Australia.
