🐾🥜 Celebrating National Peanut Butter Day with our Furry Friends! 🥳🐶
Today isn't just about peanut butter; it's a tail-wagging celebration for our beloved canine companions! 🐕🎉 On National Peanut Butter Day, let's pay homage to the classic canine delight - peanut butter!
You can make art with your pup right now too! All you will need is some paint, plastic sheet protectors, thick papers for your canvas, and obviously peanut butter! Just simply slap some peanut butter onto the plastic sheet protector and slip in your canvas dribbled with paint, then let your friend go CRAZY!!!
*Remember to ALWAYS check your peanut butter for xylitol as this chemical is bad for dogs!*
Spread the love for our canine companions on this tasty occasion! 🐾❤️🥜 #NationalPeanutButterDay #doglove #dogart #pawsandpeanutbutter
Beating the Heat
We are about to experience some hot weather again in Adelaide over the next few days. Below are some great tips on how to keep your dog safe in the heat.
Our Hearing and Medical Alert dogs in training all get nice splash pools in their yards, have early morning walks and get to go into their cool kennels early with a nice ice block or frozen carrot.
This holiday season, consider giving a gift to our puppies on behalf of someone you care about or treat yourself to one. It’s a heartwarming way to spread the spirit of giving this Christmas. 🎅❤️🐶
*Please note; this is not a merchandise item, this is a donation that will allow us to purchase the item associated with the donation.

This World Diabetes Day: Know Your Risk, Know Your Response!
We want to share the powerful reminder to stay active about your health.
Understanding the risk factors for diabetes is key; family history, lifestyle choices, diet and so many more, knowing all this can help assess and make informed decisions about one’s well-being. However, it is equally vital to know how to respond effectively.
Take charge and educate yourself, detect early signs, and adopt healthy habits. Your health journey is in your hands.
We are taking applicants Australia wide for a Diabetic Alert Dog. If you're interested in initiating the application process, please visit our Medical Alert Dog program webpage here at: https://lionshearingdogs.com.au/medical-alert-dogs/

Some of our clever (and cheeky) Hearing Assistance and Medical Alert Dogs in training caught the train yesterday 🚂
It's very important that Assistance Dogs are comfortable on public transport as they accompany and assist their recipients out in the wider community.
They all did a fantastic job and were comfortable in a different environment.
Meet some of our handsome Hearing dogs in training! 🐾
We want to celebrate National Week of Deaf People with you today by introducing some of our trainers and their trainee dogs. These amazing dogs are hard at work everyday so that they can become Assistance Dogs to Australians who are deaf or hard of hearing someday! ❤️

Happy National Week of Deaf People (NWDP)! Imagine a world where Deaf people can sign anywhere!
National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) is a weeklong national celebration of Deaf individuals and the Deaf Australian community, running from the 18th to the 25th of September.
This amazing week provides an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the Deaf community, language, culture and history. It makes the public aware of their local, state and national Deaf communities and recognises the Deaf community’s achievements.

Poppy Puppies are now 6 weeks old!
They are transitioning to more solid foods and have started going into the big yard where there are lots of toys to play with and new adventures to be had. So much fun!
It won't be long until they will be going into their puppy socialisation homes. If you are based in South Australia and interested in becoming a puppy carer and helping raise Poppy's litter and future ALHD pups, please reach out to the team by calling 8388 7836 or sending an email to [email protected] 🐶
National Diabetes Week this year runs from 9-15 July, 2023.
Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune disease. Onset is often in childhood or early adolescence, and its cause unknown.
Helping people with diabetes is a global cause of Lions Australia and Lions Clubs International and we are proud to use our provision of Assistance Dogs to contribute to the wellbeing of people with type 1 diabetes.
This year, we want to spend National Diabetes Week raising awareness of the varying challenges people with type 1 diabetes are often faced with, and to highlight the significance of self-care, regular monitoring of blood glucose levels, healthy eating habits, physical activity, and medication adherence.
Today we’d like to share a video of Medical Alert Dog in training, Bailey, and his progress towards becoming a Diabetic Alert Dog!

Our most recent Hearing Assistance Dog Placement was ALHD “Sunny”. She made the big trip on the plane ✈️ to her new recipient.
Sunny is an Australian Labradoodle, she has been settling in well over the last few weeks and working with the local Lions Club to let her recipient know when sounds are occurring in the home.
ALHD “Buddy” traveled from Adelaide to Sydney to be placed with his hard of hearing recipient last week. Hearing Assistance Dogs have access rights and can accompany their recipient in public.
Buddy was affectionately named by one of our wonderful sponsors.
A big thank you to Danielle and her family for socialising Buddy and give him the best start to his Assistance Dog career.
Here’s part of Buddy’s journey to his new home!
Lions Awareness Day is held by Lions Clubs throughout Australia on the 4th and 5th of March 2023.
Australian Lions Hearing Dogs is a Lions project that was started in 1980 with the first Hearing Assistance Dog being placed in 1982. Since its inception, Lions Clubs from all around Australia have contributed so much to our organisation with their time supporting placements and donations to help fund the organisation.
Australian Lions Hearing Dogs could not continue providing our amazing services free of charge without Lions Clubs and their members. We are so grateful to you all! 🦁
Trainee ALHD “Reece” showing off her recall with trainer Nick, good girl Reece!
Medical Alert Dog “Faye” has been trained to bring a hypokit containing sugar sources if her recipient is having a diabetic low and unable to safely seek treatment themselves.
Trainee ALHD “Sunny” practising her heeling and attention on her Trainer Marcello. We only practice off lead work in a safe and secure environment!
All Hearing Assistance Dogs need good obedience for their role in public in shops, restaurants and on public transport.
Good girl Sunny 🌞
SMOOTH OR CRUNCHY? Settle the debate with your dog with some Xylitol free peanut butter! #nationalpeanutbutterday #lionshearingdogs
Part of training to be a Hearing Assistance Dog is getting used to traffic and busy areas.
ALHD “Lan” is not only learning to relax on her mat in these environments but is also getting used to mobility aids such as walkers and gophers.
