Even though you may not realise it, you’ve likely administered NSAIDs your pet before! 💊

NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are medications that help to relieve pain, inflammation and fever. Common examples in pets include carprofen and meloxicam. These drugs may be prescribed for short periods (e.g. for pain relief after desexing) or may be used longer-term (e.g. for arthritis management).

While NSAIDs can be very useful, just like any drug they can have associated side effects. To reduce the risk of significant side effects in your pet, ensure you only administer them as per the prescribed label instructions.

🐶 For more information on safe pain relief in pets, consult our analgesia-aware team.

Does your dog suffer from travel sickness? 🚗 Don’t worry, there’s lots we can offer to prevent those mournful car dribbles and vomits!

Depending on your pet’s general health and how often they’ll be going in the car, we can prescribe one of several possible anti-nausea medications, such as maropitant or metoclopramide.

We can also provide advice on training your dog to feel comfortable in the car again, as they’ve likely developed some negative associations (car = vomit!)

For more advice on managing symptoms of tummy upset in pets, consult our knowledgeable vets.

Did you know that many “All-in-one” dog and cat parasite control products don’t fully protect against all the parasites your pet could be exposed to? 🪱

While they usually provide effective skin parasite and heartworm prevention, many of these monthly products don’t actually treat all the common types of intestinal worm (roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and flea tapeworm.)

Additionally, depending on your pet’s lifestyle, they may require additional protection against other tougher species of tapeworm, such as zipper worm and hydatids.

For personalised advice on the right “creepy-crawlies” treatment for your pet, consult our parasite-proficient vets! 💡

Have you got a pet-sitter, friend or family member booked to take care of your dog or cat these holidays? 🐾

Don’t forget to give them a thorough information handover about your pet, including details such as:
✅ Any dietary restrictions
✅ Any known long-term health issues (e.g. arthritis, predisposition to ear problems etc)
✅ When they last received flea/tick/worming prevention, and when they’re next due
✅ Our details (in case of any illness or injuries), and a plan for emergency treatment and payments
✅ If your pet has any behavioural quirks, e.g. storm phobia 🌩️

With the right information, your pet and their carer will be set up for a win, and you’ll be set for a more relaxing holiday!

Kidney disease is common in older pets but often goes unnoticed until advanced stages. By the time symptoms appear, such as increased drinking and urinating, weight loss and lethargy, significant kidney damage has already occurred 🐾.

Regular blood tests can detect kidney problems early when treatment is most effective. Early intervention can slow progression and maintain quality of life for years longer ❤️.

Annual health checks are your pet's best defence against illness 🐕🐈. During these visits, we examine your pet thoroughly, discuss any concerns, and often detect problems before symptoms are noticed.

Early intervention means better outcomes and lower costs. We can also administer other preventative treatments such as vaccinations, dental checks and parasite prevention during these visits 💉.

Pre-anaesthetic blood tests help ensure your dog's safety during procedures. These tests check organ function, blood clotting, and detect hidden conditions that could complicate anaesthesia 💉.

While healthy young dogs may not always require them, older pets or those with health concerns definitely benefit from pre-GA tests. We'll recommend pre-GA bloods based on your dog's age, health status, and procedure complexity 🐾.

While gut health affects overall wellbeing, probiotics alone rarely solve skin problems in dogs. Skin issues often stem from allergies, parasites, infections, or underlying conditions requiring specific treatment 🐶.

Though probiotics may support general health, they shouldn't replace proper veterinary diagnosis and treatment. If your dog has persistent skin problems, let us identify the root cause first 🩺.

👉 Book a consult so we can help your dog feel comfortable again.

Like humans, cats have different nutritional needs throughout their life stages 🐾.

✔️ Kittens require high-energy, high-protein growth formulas.
✔️ Adult cats need balanced maintenance diets.
✔️ Senior cats often benefit from easily digestible foods.

Some cats may need prescription diets for kidney disease, diabetes, or weight management. Regular vet visits can help ensure your cat's diet matches their life stage 🐱.

📞 Call us to discuss the right diet for your cat.

An important part of a Veterinary Nurse/Techs job is monitoring anaesthesia. They get taught a lot through their training, but a lot of work goes into education through conferences, seminars, webinars and different courses post qualification to ensure their knowledge is current and to make sure their patients have the safest anaesthetic experience possible.
During a procedure a nurse will be monitoring their patients heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide output, blood pressure and ecg.
They need to understand all normal values and know what to do if any of these become abnormal.
They also need to understand the effects of different anaesthetic medications on the body systems, know about different breathing circuits and how to calculate doses.
Different patients require different needs, from neonates to senior pets, from pugs to greyhounds to Cats, Guinea Pigs and Birds. Each anaesthesia is unique and has its own special requirements.
