Did you know that colder weather can affect your dog’s tail? 🐾

“Limber tail” (a.k.a. acute caudal myopathy) is a condition where dogs develop sudden pain around the base of their tail, leading to several days of discomfort and abnormal tail positioning.

This issue most commonly occurs in active large breed dogs, particularly those who have been swimming or playing vigorously outdoors in cold weather within the previous 24 hours.

Should you notice any discomfort in your pet during chilly weather, we’d advise hot-footing it to our clinic for a prompt veterinary assessment! ❄️

Occasional hairballs are normal for cats, but frequent vomiting in older cats needs attention. 🐈

Common causes include kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, inflammatory bowel disease, and diabetes – all treatable conditions if caught early. Other causes can include food allergies, pancreatitis or even intestinal cancers.

Uh oh, your cat has come home from an outdoor adventure walking abnormally – what could be the cause?

Outdoor cats commonly develop sudden walking difficulties due to:
✅ Cat fight injuries
✅ Joint injuries from awkward landings
✅ Pelvic, spinal, or leg bone damage from a road traffic accident
✅ Tick paralysis
✅ Paw pad cuts

If your cat isn’t walking normally, we’d recommend a prompt check-up with one of our vets. After examining your pet, we may be able to send your cat home with pain relief and rest, or recommend further investigation like X-rays. 🐾

Did you know that animal hospitals have a lot in common with human hospitals?

When unwell or injured pets stay with us, we help them rest in comfy beds, turning them frequently if they have reduced mobility. We assist with toileting and general cleanliness, and ensure that they stay hydrated through drinking or the administration of fluids (a drip). Depending on their condition, we’ll also offer them an appropriate diet (such as highly digestible or high-calorie food). 🐕‍🦺

In addition to this, your pet’s condition will be regularly reassessed, with pain relief and other medications administered on schedule.

When it comes to treating animal patients, our team is happy to prescribe lots of TLC!
