For the next few weeks we will take you on a journey of lumps… today’s special.
✂️LARRY THE LIPOMA ✂️

One of the more common lumps we see (mostly in dogs) is the lipoma. Lipomas are non cancerous tumours of fatty tissue that grow under the skin and/ or muscle layers. They are usually slow growing and unless they become large or are in constricting locations, they don’t require removal.

They are common in dogs who are overweight and elderly, and feel squishy and mobile under the skin. Although these lumps rarely cause issues, it is always good to get any lump checked by a vet to be absoloutly sure!

Little (ish) Asher here has done his fair share of vet visits and today he had a lipoma removed from a rather sensitive area 🍑. He handled it like a champ and we hope his recovery is swift!

The answer to our Tuesday funny…

“When is a black dog, not a black dog?”

… When it’s a grey-hound!!! 🐶

Coincidentally April is greyhound adoption month. If you haven’t worked out already, we are quite partial to our houndies and we love meeting all of the greyhound friends that come through the clinic. Something you might not know about greyhounds is that they are often very lazy and don’t require as much exercise as some think. After a short morning and afternoon walk or zoomie, you will often find them on the nearest couch, possibly with their legs in the air and their tongue out, sleeping away the afternoon.

Show us your lazy pets below!

Let us take a moment to appreciate how hard this boy worked to sit still for a total of one second while he had his photo taken. Puppy visits always brighten our days 🌻

Here are some tips about how you can help your new addition prepare for their first vet visits!

- Start early with desensitising them to being touched and held for examination.
- Find what treats are a high value reward to help motivate them to follow commands.
- Don’t be afraid to come to the vets for social visits in the lead up even if it’s just for a quick hello and a treat!
- Don’t be stressed yourself! Your pups will feed off of your energy and often if you are nervous they will pick up on that.

Give us a call to book in your puppy vaccination today!

Shh!! Don’t tell Cruella but we had a visit from these amazing puppies this week. 🐾

Not quite 101 but we think 11 is probably enough of a handful. Not a breed we often see, especially as puppies, they are an old breed of dog that were often known as ‘coach dogs’ because they were used as guardians for horse drawn coaches.
Did you know that most Dalmatian’s are often born white with faint spots whilst their darker spots develop in their first few weeks of life?

🌻 Feel good story Alert 🌼
Do you remember meeting Eggnog at Christmas time? He was a stray found near the clinic at barely six weeks old grotty and hungry but full of spirit.

After a few months with a wonderful rescue organisation and lots of TLC from his amazing carer, Eggnog is now a big and beautiful teenager. He is as gorgeous (and well behaved) as ever with his big bug eyes and stripey markings.

Mister Splinter ready to take off and fly away with those ears! ✈️

We could sit here and stare at his beautiful face all day but we actually just wanted to get your attention to talk about something new in the clinic. We are rolling out our in house ‘titre testing’ for dogs. This is a test that is done to measure antibody levels in the blood which helps us determine the level of immunity to certain diseases. We are currently able to test antibody levels for canine parvo, distemper and adenovirus (hepatitis). We are finding this a very useful tool when deciding on the best vaccine schedules for dogs and even avoiding vaccine reactions in a pet that may have previously experienced this.

Stocks are in high demand and sometimes may require ordering in, so please ask our friendly staff if you are interested in getting some more information!

Happy Tuesday Everyone! We hope you all had a safe and fun long weekend. ☀️

Please note we will be closing at 2pm this Saturday for a staff event. We open at 8am every day so plenty of time to pickup anything you need. Even if it’s a sneaky nail trim that your pet will thank you for (probably not now but they’ll be grateful later.)

Take a photo of the cute puppies they said, it’ll be easy they said. (Actually not sure anyone ever said that!) 🐾

We’ve been blessed with lots of puppy visitors lately so here are some fun facts you might not know!

- Puppies are born without most of their senses and their first sense to develop is touch!
- Puppy coat colours may change as they grow older.
- The largest litter of puppies recorded was 24 puppies to a Neapolitan Mastiff.
- Puppies can sleep for 15-20 hours a day!

Now this is your cue to share your hilarious puppy photos…

Not sure if you’ve heard, but we have quite the selection of toys in the clinic to suit all of your furry friends. As you can see they have all been Enzo approved.

Pssst... He’s too nervous to tell you all but it’s also his birthday today. He doesn’t like to make too much of a scene 🤨 but please make sure you send all of your pawsitive birthday vibes to Enzo the very brave 🤭Italian greyhound.
