Let’s talk about 🦠Human Medications🦠

Medications that we use in the human world can sometimes also be used in the animal world. ❗️BUT❗️It’s very important to know that factors like dose rates and concentrations are VERY different to humans and giving the wrong dose to pets can be very harmful.

Medications such as ibuprofen, antidepressants and even some vitamins can be fatal if consumed by pets. Before giving your furry family member ANY at home medications it is vital that you call and speak to your veterinary team first.

🌟If you are worried your pet has consumed an incorrect medication, we recommend calling the poisons helpline for advice: 1300 869 738 or contact your nearest vet immediately. 🌟

Surgery in the North Pole?… don’t trust Santa to Spey your cat, he has limits too, he’s not a surgeon.

Our entry into the Knight Benedikt Australia gingerbread competition. Don’t worry, we won’t be giving up our day jobs… and neither will Santa! 🎄

🎄The silly season is here. 🎄

See attached our opening hours for the Christmas period. Please remember this is a very busy time for us. There may be longer wait times than usual for routine appointments and limited spots for non urgent surgeries.

We try to see clients NEW and RETURNING as soon as possible. Please try your best to organise in advance things like: routine medication refills or annual vaccinations.

Safe and happy holidays to everybody 🧡💚

Heatwave Incoming!

We are about to experience a period of hot weather this week so please make sure to include your pets in the keeping cool protocols….

☀️ Pets with compromised health need to be watched carefully, this includes: seniors, flat faced breeds, immune compromised pets or pets with illnesses.

🕶️ Pets need protection too! Shade, unlimited water access and ideally a spot under the fan or air con will help your pet regulate their body temperature. Remember dogs with sensitive skin can also be prone to sunburn!

🚶Dusk and dawn are the best times to be out exercising. In between these times the ground is TOO HOT and the air is thick. If you wouldn’t be comfortable walking down the road in bare feet and a fur coat, neither will your pet.

If you know an elderly person with a pet, please check in with them and offer them help when needed. Heatstroke can be deadly so please spread awareness and keep others informed. 🐾

🎄DOS AND DON’TS THESE HOLIDAYS🎄

❌DON’T feed your pet Christmas cake! It often contains raisins and sultanas which are toxic to our pets.
✅DO feed your pets yummy Christmas biscuits from our front counter that contain pet safe ingredients.

❌DON’T leave chocolates and sweets laying around, even wrapped under the tree - pets are sneaky and can sniff out snacks!
✅DO stick to the same old diet you would usually feed them with the occasional treat - sadly, your pet probably doesn’t know it’s Christmas and they don’t need a stomach upset from unfamiliar foods

❌DON’T feed your pets all of the leftovers from your Christmas dinner. These are often high in fat and can increase the risk of developing pancreatitis - This can be fatal!
✅ DO make sure your decorations are safely away from nosey creatures. The last place you want to spend your Christmas is the emergency room after your cat has a blockage from eating too much tinsel!

Enjoy your holiday period and prioritise your pets health! Love, Gatsby and Mr Sparkles

🌟Not a creature was stirring, not even an…. Elf? 🌟

It’s kitten season and we have been seeing LOTS of cats and kittens for their vet work before they go to their forever families for Christmas. Shout out to our local rescues who have been working endlessly to make sure these guys are safe and fed.

🌟 Margot isn’t usually one to share her snacks but for Mr Sparkles, she’ll make an exception! 🌟

DONT FORGET! Please put in any special food or medication orders you may need for the holiday period. We recommend organising this in advance, as not all of our suppliers are open over Christmas/ New year and we have limited stock of some products available in the clinic.
