Today is Monkeys 5th hatchday!
Cannot believe my little blue bird is 5 already! While Monkey is the least cuddly of my flock he still enjoys hanging out, chatting and occasionally snuggling into my neck (and trying to stick his face between my glasses and my eye)

Whenever I give my dogs a carrot (they absolutely love munching on carrots) I always cut the top off which the birds then get as a snack. Monkey apparently doesn't want to share this one 😅

I can't believe it's been 5 years already! (And that I spaced and missed the actual day on Saturday)

5 years ago I brought this timid little bird home. Our first few weeks was mostly spent with me hanging out beside him and offering seeds to slowly show him I wasn't scary. As he got more comfortable with me his personality started to shine through and he became the sweetest little snuggly bird with such a big goofball attitude.

It's because of Pistachio that I started For The Parrots as most bird toys were either made for larger birds or, when they were made for small birds, were all plastic and didn't allow them to express natural behaviours by destroying them. So I started making toys and Pistachio started actually playing with them!

What a great 5 years, here's to many more!

It's Sprout's 3rd Gotcha Day! 🎉✨️

3 years ago I was working with the rescue he was at, making and donating some toys for the birds in care. During that time I saw them post this sweet little guy and fell in love. Once he was cleared to be adopted I hopped in my car and drove for several hours to meet up and bring him home. It took some time to build his trust but he settled into the new routine at home pretty well. He has a long history of plucking with many ups and downs over the years but the last 6 months has been the best since I've had him. He's a happy little guy who loves hanging out and chatting away.

I can't believe it's already been 3 years and I can't wait to spend many more years together with my spunky little dude 💕

Happy to see that even after moving house Sprout has been coping so well that even more feathers have filled in on his belly! In the past all that change and stress would have resulted in an overnight naked chicken but here we are with more feather coverage than I've seen in a while!

Poor Sprout seems to be struggling the most since my surgery. Thankfully he hasn't gone on a plucking spree which I was worried about but he's less keen on coming out of his cage (may take several minutes for him to move from his safety spot in the back corner, sometimes just not coming out at all) and is generally uncomfortable with my boot and what it's like to ride on my shoulder while I'm walking on crutches. We're taking things at his pace, trying to get back to a similar routine that we had prior to my surgery, doing some short training (little recalls, building positive association with looking at/being around my boot, etc).

I'm hoping he'll adapt soon like the others have, he's always been a very sensitive bird and it takes a while for him to be OK with new things. Right now he's chilling on my knee.

Monkey hopped up on my boot and started giving kisses and saying "scritch" a lot 💕
Monkey and Pistachio have both adapted really well to me being in the boot, Sprout is still not a fan

Had my big surgery this week, got home yesterday. I think all the pets were happy to have me home though Pistachio was a little cranky with me (he's better today). Sprout's not too sure about the boot, so lots of treats to show them its not so scary.

Sprout doesn't like to stay still to get his photo taken so we had to bribe with an almond slice to try and get a shot of the nice chest feathers he's been maintaining (even with that he only let me take 2 photos before he flew off and turned his back on me)

I'm really happy with how Sprout has been doing, we still get some set backs where he chews feathers out again but overall he's been doing well.
