Both Jenni Divine and Santolino ran out of their skin in the $50,000 Super Maiden at Wagga's Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday.

Taking on a red-hot $1.50 favourite, Jenni Divine (Josh Richards) showed a lot of heart, going down in a head-bobbing finish, while Santolini (Rebecca Bronett Prag) was doing her best work late when running third.

The sky is the limit for these two young fillies..

What a 2024 for Michael Travers Racing

Many people measure success by winners, and on that front, we had a fantastic year, winning Gundagai Adelong Racing Club's Adelong Cup with Diamond Carat and the Ardlethan Picnic Races Cup with Dancing In The Sky.

Arguably, our best day was an Albury Racing Club double in November with two nice horses, Pussyfoot and Dynamic One.

Wagga's Murrumbidgee Turf Club was a happy hunting ground, with Clearedhot, Mathrin, and Saint Loft winning there, while we also tasted success at Leeton Jockey Club, Gundagai Adelong Racing Club Lockhart, Cootamundra, Queanbeyan, and Tumut Turf Club

Mathrin, a stable stalwart, even landed MTC horse of the season honours for 2023/24.

Still, it hasn’t been the on-track success that has defined 2024 for the MTR team.

MTR announced earlier this year that we had taken on Trevor Sutherland's former stables on Travers Street (Travers Racing on Travers Street still gives Mick a chuckle).
With a proven winning environment and closer proximity to the MTC Racecourse, we also have access to an eight-horse walker and six-horse walker, big yards, and 18 more stables, meaning we can have up to 40 gallopers in work.

During a good year, we also picked up new owners and wonderful families that have joined the MTR team.

Via ownership opportunities in recent winner Kahawaty and up-and-coming maiden Jenni Divine, we’ve never had so many people racing with MTR.

The future is also exciting, as we have an unraced Dracarys filly and Xtavagant gelding in work, and their owners will ride the rollercoaster that is thoroughbred horse racing as these two get closer to their first starts.

It’s been another thrilling year for Mick, who only landed his first winner as a trainer with Estaverdi in 2021, and as we grow, learn, and keep winning together, there’s no telling what the future holds for our close-knit and hard-working team.

A huge thanks to our staff, owners, and all the jockeys who have ridden for us and who have made this journey possible.

Have a wonderful New Year’s Eve, everyone, and we’ll see you at Gundagai tomorrow, Wagga on Friday, and Wodonga on Sunday as we kick off 2025.

A last-minute jockey change didn't stop Wild Feather from winning the 1400m Maiden Plate at Tumut on Boxing Day.

Ridden beautifully by Amy O'Driscoll, who picked up the ride after an injury to Jason Lyon, Wild Feather was a popular winner in front of a big local crowd.

The work never stops, not even at Christmas, but it doesn't mean we lose our festive spirit. Merry Christmas everyone. See you at Tumut tomorrow.

A big thanks to John Kissick for coming in early on Tuesday morning and riding 3 jumpouts for the stable. After riding a double at Albury on Saturday (including one that knocked off Saint Loft 🤣), he then made the long trip to Orange on Monday for a winner. Still, he got up for trackwork and the jumpouts at Wagga on Tuesday. He's a goer alright and riding as well as ever.

There's always work to be done at MTR.
