🚨🚨 SOCIAL MEDIA IS FAKE!!! 🚨🚨
Just a friendly reminder that not everything you see online is real — and it’s definitely not as perfect as it looks.
One of the reasons I started this series is because I’ve realised I’m a classic example of the phrase “it’s not all as it seems.”
I’ve posted smiley photos with animals and cheerful captions — on days when things were actually really tough. Business was slow. I’d lost multiple bookings. I was struggling emotionally. But you’d never know that from the post — and that’s the problem.
And it’s not just business.
We do the same in our personal lives.
A friend once told me how frustrated she gets when her sister posts emotional anniversary tributes — when behind the scenes, they’ve spent the year on the verge of breaking up.
📢 BIG FAT REMINDER: MOST OF IT ISN’T REAL.
I’ve seen people post about amazing social lives, incredible outings… but I was there. They sat on their phone the whole time. The only time they got up was to take photos for socials.
Some were even the total opposite in real life to how they appeared online — even down to their relationships or jobs.
Let’s be honest:
Social media is a highlight reel.
We post the good, not the bad.
And especially in business — why would we share the messy stuff?
I remember a business owner telling me how much he spends on Facebook ads a month— my jaw hit the floor. His business looked so successful, I just assumed he got bookings easily. Nope. He was spending heaps just to keep things moving.
That was a wake-up call.
Because again — just because a business looks busy doesn’t mean they’re thriving.
Some spend hundreds (or thousands) just to appear that way.
Some get boosts from family and friends.
Some buy followers.
It’s all surface-level.
And no one’s going to walk up to a stranger and say,
“Yeah, things have been rough. It’s been a slow 12 months.”
But I wish more people were honest — it would’ve saved me so many nights wondering:
“Why are they doing so well?”
“Why are they getting so much attention?”
“Why can’t I get that kind of response?”
And most of the time?
They weren’t doing that well either.
Some had big sales and still didn’t break even.
Some had amazing branding and no cash flow.
Some weren’t even in my industry — but still made me feel like I was falling behind.
Truth is, business can feel competitive — even when you’re not trying to compete. Everyone’s walking around with “look how great I’m doing!” energy… and no one wants to admit they’re struggling.
Because there’s pride. Embarrassment. Fear.
And again — who wants to post that on a business page?
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Whether you’re a business owner or just a human being trying to get through life — be honest.
You don’t have to share everything.
You don’t have to spill your heart out online.
But just know: everyone is going through something.
No one has it all figured out.
Maybe this post isn’t doing me any favours.
Maybe it seems like I’m complaining.
Maybe it’s not even relevant to my pet-sitting business.
But this is part of my journey.
I still love animals.
I still love what I do.
But I’m also ready to start blogging my journey and being more honest — whether you’re a client, a past client, a family member, or just someone who follows my page.
Because this is real life.
And I want to share more of mine. The good AND the bad.
