Update: Charlie has found a wonderful new family in Victoria!

Introducing...

'Charlie Brown' a stunning tri-coloured 8 week old bordoodle pup!

Charlie was born on the 11th March (he's a Pisces)
He is a calm, affectionate puppy who loves snuggles. He sits to be patted and loves nothing more than lounging at your feet!

Charlie Brown is toilet trained and comes with a puppy pack. Charlie is a Mini Bordoodle, he will only grow 11-13kgs. His mum and dad are proven and have been joined previously (so we know what size he is going to grow to!)

The boring stuff - Charlie Brown comes vaccinated (1st vaccination), wormed fortnightly and vet checked. Mum and Dad are DNA cleared aswell ☺️

We know that there is a correlation between stress and unmet needs. When our dogs are stressed, their needs are more acute and when those needs go unmet, they experience more stress.

But there is another layer in this equation: How our human responses and behaviors come into play.

When our dogs' needs aren't met, they experience stress and find outlets for meeting them. This, in turn, stresses us as their guardians because the outlets that are available to them usually aren't aligned with our wants. Ironically, this can result in less of our dogs' needs being met because we disconnect and fail to recognize the root cause. And the cycle continues.

To prevent this, try to be as proactive as possible in meeting your dog's physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs.

This is a good illustration of puppy socialization needs, shared from Good as Gold Training, but I would also add that all of the listed exposure and experience needs to feel *safe* for the puppy. If s/he is nervous, tentative, or fearful the fear should be handled by backing off a little and reintroducing very slowly and with lots of praise, food and patience. Sometimes, for the sake of "socialization", owners push their puppies too far and too fast, and it can backfire. Good socialization requires that we "read" our puppies and help them feel safe as they navigate the sounds, textures, people and animals in their new world.

EXPECTATIONS WHEN RAISING A PUPPY. 🐾

Something to consider when bringing a puppy home, is that a dog is not emotionally mature until he or she hits somewhere between 1.5 - 3 years of age (depending on the breed). Even then, with all our dogs, we notice a significant change in their behaviour as the years roll on, with training and experiences forever shaping their personality.

From the moment they are born up until roughly 18 months of age, a puppy goes through various important developmental periods. Environmental factors, training and how you manage your pup during these phases will impact how they mature emotionally and behaviourally down the track.

Like humans, dogs will go through challenging periods that make them less fun to be around, like the teenage phase! Be kind, compassionate and research these leaps to better understand what’s driving the sudden behavioural change.
Dogs are highly emotional, social creatures that won’t learn the ways of the world over night.
Success boils down to a few things but is overarched by your expectations, time and patience throughout the first couple of years of your puppy’s life.

Elliott Bordoodles currently has 9 standard Bordoodle babies that will be ready for their new homes in 8 weeks time. We have an assortment of colours - We have six girls and three boys.

Some are spoken for but if you are searching for a Bordoodle baby reach for a chat and an application.

Some of these pups may be suitable for therapy or for families with children who have additional needs. (My real job is as a therapist so I can help connect you with a pup who has a suitable temperament)

How are you teaching your little ones to engage with dogs?

🐶DOGS & KIDS 👦--> You'd be hard pressed to find a kid more desensitised to dogs than Lennox. This doesn't mean he assumes all dogs are cool with him. Without being nags, we work really hard to instill in him the following rules when it comes to dogs:

👉 Assume all dogs want space. Some dogs feel quiet nervous around kid's unpredictability.
👉 If he wants to play/pet a dog, he needs to ask an adult first and then call the dog to him rather than approach and lean over an unfamiliar dog.
👉 Never scooter, run or scream in close proximity to dogs, especially if they are tied up in a public place. When he spots a dog while scootering he slows down, dismounts or gives them a wide birth and a smile.
👉 Don't interact with a sleeping, eating or bone chewing dog ever.

Of course as trainers, we desensitise our dogs to all of the above because children don't always like to follow instructions, but just like humans, dogs have off days too.
Teaching kids these simple rules can go along way in harbouring a safe and respectful relationship with their canine friend.
