๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Phew. Not the post we wanted to be making today but here it goes. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

We were saddened to read a post about our fund-raisers up at Mt Pleasant Shopping Centre charging $5 for a family to pat the wallaroo joey named Athena who was sitting with our senior carer Yvette.

We would like address what appears to be a big miscommunication. We have on display at our events the poster below. As you can see it clearly states that whilst appreciated, donations are in no way compulsory in order to come and visit our stand.

What we believe may have occurred was that we had a sign up saying a local artist has donated packets of gift cards to give out to anyone who donates more than $10 and then children were asking if they could take the cards and our carers were letting them know the cards were for donations over $5. We do not charge for members of the public to come to see the animals ever. Our main goal is to raise awareness and education in the ways we can help these stunning creatures.

The other issue that we noticed on the post was comments saying we were breaking the law by having these animals in Mt Pleasant and in the public eye. To clear this up- the Australian Wildlife Rescue Service holds a permit by the DES. Every time someone complains that we are breaking the law by exhibiting incorrectly, we are contacted and checked on and we have remained compliant and within the scope of our permit.

We also do not get donated that stall space at Mt Pleasant for free. We pay for the space and as such are subject to the same insurances, permits and hoops to jump through as other stall holders. Simply put, Mt Pleasant would not have us there if it were illegal to do so.

Posts like the one mentioned are incredibly damaging to the reputation of our service and to the mental health of all the carers involved. We understand mistakes happen, but the backlash here has had an effect on our entire service.

We hope that clears up any confusion, and we hope that we can focus on what's important- the rescue and rehabilitation of Australian Wildlife.

How wonderful is this? One of the rescues that have been very close to our heart is Cottontail, the Eastern Grey Kangaroo who came to us with an injured tail. Our carers have worked with her and she is going to be on the news tonight at 5.30!

There is a possum in this picture!!

We had a incredibly generous donation from Shauna, Aaron and Lilly this week. Not one, not 2 but 3 amazing cages for our rescues to rehabilitate in.

We moved Tippy from her much smaller cage to her new mansion today and we haven't heard a peep out of her she is so content! Thanks so much!

Remember if you have old cages, baby blankets or linen at home that you want to get rid of, any of our wildlife and animal rescue services in the region would love it rather than taking it to landfill or letting it collect dust. If one service has enough, we very happily share with other rescue services around us!

๐Ÿชก๐Ÿงถ We have had some beautiful donations recently from beautiful knitted blankets to old towels and linens to beanies and t-shirts! ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿงฃ

Every donation is welcome and means so much. These bubbas need to keep warm, clean and safe. Things like towels can help line cages or even safely capture injured wildlife. T-shirts and bed linens can be made into pouches and nest and box liners and the knitted blankets keep our small ones toasty and warm.
We appreciate you all, thankyou!

Happy Friday Evening! We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Tippy is a 4mo Brushtail Possum and is having a lovely time with her fresh flowers. Do you have any bottle brush or grevillea? Our bubbas love these beautiful flowers. If you have any you don't mind parting with, we would love to hear from you!

๐Ÿฆ˜ Did you know? ๐Ÿฆ˜

We are a non-profit and run entirely by volunteers. This means we do rely on donations from the public. These donations go towards feeding, caring for, transporting and releasing these beautiful creatures! Things like vet bills, food and cages don't come cheap and we are so appreciative of any help we can get! To help, you can either visit us in person when we are fundraising at Mount Pleasant every Friday and Saturday, or you can visit our Chuffed.org page to donate digitally.

Look at the newest of our rescues! This tiny little wallaby is only 80gms! We are doing our best to give this little guy the best chance at life we can, he's a fighter that's for sure. Please remember to check the pouch whenever you see animals that have been hit by vehicles.
