In the last 24 hours, we have received 3 random donations which I can only assume are absolute Angels including us in their end of financial year tax deductable donations,THANK YOU!!!

I wasn't going to post to ask for donations this financial year, we haven't been updating our socials much and I feel so often when we do, we are asking for help.
But the truth is, the reason socials and updates are slow is because we are so busy. I've been working so hard in my paid work to cover hay, feed and vets while navigating this drought and continuing to try to achieve purchasing our forever home so we can help more animals again, all while we still take care of everyone here. The truth is, we need support now, more than ever.

We are so tired and so stretched in every way, so I thought I'd pop a little post up, just a casual 5 hours before cut off 😅, in case anyone is still willing to consider a little Sanctuary with a big heart on their end of financial year donation list

"I'm ok, but I very nearly did my last mischief" ~ Pilot

Hello friends 💖
Well, it's safe to say we have been to Stress Town and back again this week...a number of times 😅

Many of you will be familiar with the face of our handsome Pilot AKA Mr Stinky. At 12 years young, one might think his days of daredevilry dauntlessness were in the revision mirror, but one would be very VERY wrong!

While out on his afternoon stroll with Jem last Thursday, Pilot happened upon a sunbathing Eastern Brown Snake minding their own business and decided to casually and gently pick our slithery pal up to bring home, like they were a new favourite stick for him to bring back to his bed and chew, and not a living, breathing and extremely venomous individual...the second most deadly land snake in the world

Pilot was bitten twice, and initially seemed very relaxed, wondering why Jem was yelling at him so intensely to 'DROP THEM'. He went down hill very quickly from there
It's quite the tale of fast action from Jem, who was home alone and had no help, and the amazing Wangaratta Veterinary Clinic team that enabled Pilot to live, We were so very close to losing him, but I'll save that for another post.

It has been an up and down week of recovery so far, and it's estimated that he should close to his usual boofhead self again after another week or so of healing, its a long road back to health for dogs after a snake bite.
We are so grateful to the entire team who helped save Pilot and especially the wonderful Dr Lorna who has been so available and supportive

We are currently already at breaking point and in a hay crisis with the drought, things are so very hard for us and all Sanctuaries at the moment. We work so very hard every day to keep things going.
There is no assistance for Sanctuaries except that which you provide. Pilots treatment came in at almost $5000, we really need some help to cover our vet bill. If you can donate and or share, we would be so grateful! ❤️

Master Benny and his Sheepy pals have very much enjoyed being on Autumn leaf clean-up duty again this year!

Now that Winter has well and truly arrived, this is the last tree providing the goodness, with all the other deciduous trees having already shed their folage for the cooler months.

Benny managed to sneak up before anyone else noticed after a few good gusts of wind sent a blanket of leaves to the ground for his enjoyment 🍂

Family isn't only defined by blood and DNA, it's about love, and love isn't an emotion reserved for the human experience ✨️

A few gentle and heartfelt head rubs between one of our most gentle Sheep residents at the Sanctuary, and the undisputed naughtiest. Eyes closed and heads resting on each other, showing undeniable affection and connection, contentment and peace 💜

Like us, Sheep can choose to show affection through physical touch and feel calmer and safer in their family groups. They experience a full range of emotions including joy, anger, sadness, playfulness, and boredom, which are so easily recognised, because, in many ways, we behave in very similar ways when we experience these feelings too 🌸

No two loving families are the same, but all love is precious 💗

I just finished reading this wonderful book by from and found it truly so validating and comforting ❤️ If you or your rescue are going through some hard days, and you just don't know how things are going to pan out, Ellie and the Gentle Barns story might just give you the dash of hope you need to keep trudging towards better days 🌻

I've been, at times, ruminating in thoughts and feelings of failure for the past few years.
Battling along and nearly killing myself via burnout trying to make ends meet. To pay for us, everything for the animals and to save enough for our own property so we can have a forever home for us all and welcome more souls.

It has been so hard, especially because so many people don't see the animals we know and love as being worthy of such sacrifice...by my goodness, we know beyond doubt that they are! Thankfully with by my side, doing all he can too, it doesn't feel so lonely. Life isn't always meant to be easy, and when things feel the hardest, that's often when the most important work is being achieved, it's no time to quit!

Thank you to the Animals that we call family for always giving me a reason for everything, you make life magic ✨️

🎂Oops We missed our birthday 🎂
Between caring for the Animal family, fundraising and working out butts off every week in our day jobs, edging towards securing our future forever property, life just gets away, but it's so important to mark and reflect on these milestones

Our co-founder and CEO, Snowy, arrived exactly 6 years and one day ago at the ripe age of 4 weeks old. He was rescued by the beautiful Donna when she found him unable to stand and feed from his mother on the coldest and wettest of Easter Sundays, she saved him from certain hypothermia and death.
She cared for him, nurtured him and worked with Snow Man to rehabilitate his poor little back legs until he could run around just like any sweet little Lambie should. She even still sponsors him to this day 💜💜

The day Snowy arrived marked the day Shear Existence was born. It's been a joyous journey with challenges we never knew we had the strength to face, but somehow always did. We have made a lot of silly decisions, and some good ones but they were all for the right reasons. The next chapter will be filled with all the same heart and passion mixed with our newfound wisdom gathered over the past 6 years

And after all, is peace not the greatest dream we all hold for ourselves?

Peace from others, and from our own hearts and minds

Peace to feel free to live, to adventure, to rest to breathe, to calmly and contently enjoy a sunset...

If we so deeply desire Peace for ourselves, how can we so casually deny this for any other living soul?

A peaceful world for others brings peace for us all. We can not act as an inherently violent humanity towards so many and fain surprise when the same violence and suffering finds us also

If we want to feel peace we must first live peacefully ✨️

Holy moly! 36 hours and already you guys have come through with the goods, thank you soooooo much

We managed to track down 22 hay rolls locally for $175 each delivered, this feels like a miracle... BUT... that means we are still $2336 short, we must raise this ASAP or miss out which we just CAN NOT let happen.
This is just stage one of making it through this year, its going to be a long hard slog! Can you help us snap up these lovely rye clover bales by sharing our fundraiser?

For those who don't know, Victoria is in drought and there is no grass, hay or rain on the horrizen, , things are becoming critical for those with animals in their care.
Shear Existence and Free Spirits Sheep Sanctuary (currently on a social media break), are again working together to navigate our way through this stressful time with the help of our wonderful community 🌸
