🌍✨ Today is International Day of Peace, but every day at Shear Existence, we set forth on our mission towards peace, compassion, and a gentler way of being

There was a time when I felt deep despair, wondering how humanity had drifted so far from kindness, into ego, harshness, and violence. I saw suffering on a scale that broke my once joyful heart. But through reflection, I came to see something powerful...the animals here at the Sanctuary are ambassadors for peace, and it's my calling to ensure they are seen

Their presence reminds us that compassion is possible for all. If we can learn to live peacefully alongside Cows and Birds, Sheep and Fish, Goats and even the tiniest Insects, to refuse violent acts against beings that look and sound different from ourselves, then imagine how thoughtfully we would treat each other

So here, peace is not just an idea. It’s a practice. It’s in the care we give the animals, in the food and products we choose, in every action we take to cause the least harm we can. Through what we do, we hope to share how joyful it is to live this way

May Violence fade into memory
May all beings...human, animal, and the Earth herself, soon find the loving arms of peace and compassion 🌱🕊️

Every day at the Sanctuary, we witness little moments that remind us of our shared connection. A sheep basking in the sun, a goat chasing after a friend, or a hen dust-bathing in the earth, each one living life in their own way, with their own personality and joy. It’s undeniable proof that, in the ways that truly matter, we aren’t so different. All of us long for peace, safety, and the chance to simply be happy 🌞💛

Peeking through the eucalypts, the early morning sun beams spellbindingly greet us each morning, and so does precious Gilly ✨️ Little moments of beauty that fill our cups and remind us that there is goodness, there is peace, there is magic ☀️

Gilly is a very sweet girl but isn't afraid to assert her displeasure if needed, traits I really admire. At the end of last year, at 11 years young, Gilly lost her twin brother after he couldn't recover from illness. They had spent their entire lives together and were joined at the hip, our hearts ached for her loss...and ours.
Although I'm certain Gilly feels a gaping Jack-sized hole in her world, with time she has adjusted and has bonded more with other members of the herd...she seems happy again ❤️

Another truck roll over with innocent live souls aboard 💔 Often there are injured survivors who have evaded discovery during the clean up after an accident like this, but the accident occurring in the median strip of the Hume Hwy didn't leave much opportunity for that. RIP Babies 🌈

Its my 40th Birthday today, and would I even be me if I didn't try to exploit my Birthday for the good of the Sanctuary 😅

As I shimmy into middle age, my devotion to the Sanctuary, Animals and doing my part to bring about a peaceful world for all only grows, and I'm here today to ask a whole bunch of people I've most likely never gifted anything too, to give me the gift of supporting the Sanctuary today 😅 A bit rich, I know!!!

Hulky and Ralf have been with us a little over a week now and have already settled in as the sweetest little gentlemen… well, unless you’re carrying lamb pellets, in which case they’ll come bounding over like the most enthusiastic golden retrievers. 💛 They are such gentle souls and a joy to spend time with every day

This year, many mother sheep have been unable to care for their babies due to drought. While no one can truly replace a mother, Hulk and Ralf were lucky enough to be raised by loving adoptive humans who doted on them daily even when they started munching through the pumpkin patch and all the succulents 😅

When they grew too big for a suburban backyard, they went to live at the local high school. All was well until their human dad discovered the school’s plan to send them to the abattoir. After seeing firsthand what unique little individuals they are, and imagining the fear they would feel, he couldn’t let that be their fate

And that’s how they found their way to us 💕
Technically we were at capacity for rescues, but it was simply unimaginable to allow these boys to go to such a place of nightmares. Now, they are safe, loved, and will be protected for the rest of their natural lives

It has been so moving to witness the love and devotion their human had for them. We will always work towards a world where all animals are valued for who they are, not for what they can give us 🌱✨

✨ Yesterday was World Goat Day 🐐

Did you know goats were among the very first animals domesticated by humans over 10,000 years ago? They’ve been kept by humans throughout history to be used for their milk, meat, fibre, and even as pack animals

But here at the Sanctuary, our goats don’t owe us anything. We simply feel honoured to share our lives with these clever, mischievous, personality-packed beings. Our role is to give them the freedom to live on their own terms, with no obligation to us.

So yes, we might be a little late to mark the official day… but honestly, every day is a good day to celebrate and appreciate goats ❤️

🚨Hay has never been harder to find or more expensive, Please help us through this hay crisis!!🚨

🌾Hay is notoriously hard to fundraise for because it's rather boring and unengaging, but Sanctuaries need it to become hip and cool ASAP

Shear Existence Sanctuary and Free Spirits Sheep Sanctuary have been working side by side for many years. With a shared passion for providing rescued animals a life filled with love, safety and doing our very best to help heal the broken bodies and spirits of animals who have already endured so much, it’s made walking this wild rescue path together as a team a truly special journey💗💗

Collectively, we currently permanently care for over 150 rescued farmed animals, with many others having passed in and out of our gates. We have provided a valuable service to members of our North East Victorian community who have sought to search for a compassionate alternative for animals that would usually lose their lives 🌸

But right now, the hay crisis is hitting us so very hard. We have a few dedicated regular donors, but most of the costs to keep our Sanctuaries alive come from our day jobs. With round bales now skyrocketing to $250-$300 each, and our joint hay bill alone coming in at about $2500 a fortnight on top of other feed, vet, bedding and supplies costs, it's become impossible for us to carry this weight alone. We need to buy hay in bulk while we still can to ensure food security for the animals that call both Sanctuaries home 🙏

This is where our community can make a difference! When you support us, you’re not just donating, you’re becoming an integral part of the team! No one person can do it all, and every role is important, we need you standing with us to get through this tough time and to keep doing what we do for many years to come ❤️
