Meet S A N D Y 💜 a 6 month old Groodle

This is Sandy’s second groom. She had a 13mm length haircut using a comb attachment, and some scissor work to style her face.

At this stage Sandy still has a very soft, straight, puppy coat. Sandy is brushed most days at home by her owners. Over the next 6 months her coat will transition to an adult coat.

Oodles can have many variations of coat types. And the recommendations are for haircuts every 4-8 weeks, depending on the coat growth rate and the “look” you’d like to achieve and maintain for your dog.

It is expected with this very straight coat type, that Sandy may have a slightly slower growing, possibly more shedding, style of coat. But her owners won’t really know until it matures.

As a puppy Sandy visited for a Puppy Experience and multiple confidence sessions to prepare her for her first groom. She is doing really well with the grooming salon environment, the process and the equipment. 💜🐾

Meet O N S L O W 💜 a 1yo Groodle

Onslow enjoys the farm life and receives a short haircut (especially on his feet) over the summer months to keep things practical. He has previously had issues in his long puppy coat, trapping grass seeds in his feet and between his toes.

Onslow has a wonderful temperament, is a pleasure to groom, and his owner did a lot of research into breeders before purchasing this stunning young man.

At the salon, we frequently see dogs who face mobility challenges due to various chronic conditions, such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, and muscle weakness. These issues can make tasks like transitioning in and out of the bath, as well as standing for the drying and trimming process, quite difficult for them. We're fortunate to have Lindsay from Canine Nurture on hand to offer guidance ensuring these dogs are as comfortable as possible and advice to the owners about how to help them at home 💜

Meet J E S S I E 💜 a 14yo Puggle

This could be our best picture yet! Jessie prefers not to look at the camera for her photo session 😅

Jessie visits every month for a Day Spa De-Shed double coat (short hair) groom. Her owner loves how it shifts a lot of loose coat and helps reduce the amount of hair in the home. We also do a nail trim and a**l gland expression for Jessie.

Welcome L A U R E N 💜

We welcome Lauren to our team. Lauren’s background is dog training, with 4 years working as an Assistance Dog Trainer. She has just completed intensive training at the Australian Dog Grooming School. We are very excited to welcome Lauren to the Wang Doggy Day Spa team.

In her spare time Lauren helps her partner Steve at his boarding kennel, and she enjoys going to the gym, camping and travelling.

We are excited for you to meet Lauren, and we feel very lucky to have someone with her skills and knowledge around dog behaviour and training.

Lily has been coming to us for over a year, and now her new brother Eddie comes too.

We groom many short hair dogs. Both Lily & Eddie visit for a Day Spa short hair service which includes a nail trim. A clean healthy skin and coat is important. Regular grooming helps reduce the volume of shedding hair - short hair dogs are very high shedding!

Our very talented Airlie competed in her first grooming competition yesterday in Melbourne.

She did an incredible groom on her dog Beau and what an experience it was! Most of our team were there to support her and have a look at how things are done in the competition world.

This is an exciting and important time for your puppy’s development. As dog trainers, the most common behavioural issues we see in adult dogs are separation anxiety, resource guarding and reactivity. These problems can be largely avoided by the way you raise your puppy.

Here’re some tips to set you on the path of success and help ensure your new bundle of joy grows up to be a stable, happy and content canine companion.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

COMMUNICATION is key to understanding your new puppy’s feelings. Learn to read their body language to know what they’re telling you.

SOCIALISATION relates to how they interact with all living things. Social experiences should be kept short and enjoyable and stop before your puppy becomes over aroused or excited.

BUILD CONFIDENCE towards everything in their environment: things with wheels, different surfaces, unusual objects, water, weather conditions.

TRAIN BEHAVIOURS like ‘sit’ and ‘come’ for all situations. If your puppy thinks sit is the magic behaviour for all good things in life, they are less likely to develop undesirable attention-seeking alternatives.

CRATE TRAIN your puppy to help them learn how to relax in a busy family household.

BUILD INDEPENDENCE from the start. Give them time by themselves close by people when you aren’t training or playing with them.

GAMES such as fetch, tug and nose works are FANTASTIC ways to bond and exercise your dog.

GENETICS play a big role! Know your breed and how to genetically fulfil them.

Christmas holidays are a fantastic opportunity to expose your puppy to many people, noises, storms, and being left alone in small bursts before everyone returns to work and school. Put the work in now to ensure a long and successful life with your dog!
