Meet Kookee she is an Eclectus parrot I've had her for almost 8 weeks, in this time she has learnt to touch, wave, spin, pick up tiles drop them, put them away she is learning colours and now she is learning to match colours. Anything is possible weather it be our dog or bird etc if we try to teach them. I'm so very proud of Kookee and my dogs because the more they learn the more they try and want to learn more. 🥰🐶
Food
Another way to using impulse control is around food, especially when they are food focused, teaching dogs to wait while they are hanging around waiting to be invited to eat there food
Impulse control
There are so many ways in your everyday environment to teach your dogs to use impulse control. (Think for themselves) door boundaries, furniture boundaries, back door from the back yard to inside the house, hour drop exercise, Matt command and more, teaching impulse control is a good start to having a well behaved dog, when your at home or out and about. are you needing any help feel free to get in touch.
Show me your pics of your dogs using their impulse control
While recovering from an accident I have put my dogs on a Matt command, there has been a lot going on including getting a Cole's delivery, have they made a mistake absolutely but they learnt from their mistake, an hour later they are still on their matts. When they are on their Matt they can stand up sit down or lie down so long as they are staying on their matts. I can take my dogs bed anywhere and they are able to be on their matts while visiting people.
My week
So proud of these owners and doggos
Impulse control at its finest. I put them in a drop the two pups wanted to play so they literally played around Harley at times actually touching him. 1 hr later still holding his command still with the dogs playing. Well done Myah and Harley.
Drop exercise is the best way to teach your dog impulse control. Can your dog hold this command without you being near them.
Fun afternoon out Myah and Harley came to Jindivick for a fun afternoon and some swimming. First time in deeper water
Teaching drop stay exercise is important to teach on lead before progressing to off lead, Myah is truly an awesome little girl but this doesn't just happen we went through all the steps to get to this point. Please don't do this off lead until you have worked your dog through this on lead.
Teaching dogs to listen and respond reliably is a very important part of teaching our dogs, can your dog hold a back door boundary and wait for an invitation to come inside 😀🥰
Update on Ben, I've been taking him on weekly walks, last week we came up against 3 book shelves on the side of the road, the word trust wasn't in his vocabulary, his instinct was to run and run onto the road which is not a safe for him to do. however working him through this teaching him to trust me is key to him learning and getting his reactions under control. I walked him the next day as well because latent learning kicks in and I wanted to see his reactions the next day. Day two his finally calming down walking past the book shelf. In order to help him I had to gave him some critical distance before we could come too close and slowly we were able to get closer.
Today his reaction were amazing compared to last week you can still see uncertainty in his face but his reaction was not to run today past the scary object and to trust me. we even got our paws up on it today. this is why socialising your dog and training your dog is so important, having a mutual language between you and your dog is absolutely a must. Had the training been in place and Socialisation Ben would be a much calmer and happier dog however he is getting there just going to take time.
I am so proud of Ben because he is trying so hard to trust me, in the clip below we are walking past skip and walking in between the skip and the power pole and he took it in his stride to try and make an attempt, we could not have done this last week. This dog has taught me so much, well done Ben
Few highlights of the week, thank you to all my wonderful families for being so amazing
