Boss is cute but he's super serious about making sure your puppy and kitten have their vaccinations!

❓Do you know why puppies and kittens have a course of vaccinations? ❓

Pups and kittens both receive antibodies from their mother's milk that help provide protection against diseases like parvo. This protection starts to weaken as the pup or kitten grows.

To ensure we keep them as safe as possible, we administer a course of vaccinations to develop their immunity before they have a chance to be exposed to viruses such as parvo.

We recommend that puppies start their course at 6-8 weeks then continue with boosters at 10-12 weeks and 14-16 weeks.

Kittens start at 8 weeks then continue with boosters at 12 and 16 weeks.

Puppies should avoid visits to public places until 7-10 days after their 14-16 week needle.

If you have any questions or would like to book your pet in for their vaccinations, please call the clinic on 4667 1176 or book online.

⭐ STAFF SPOTLIGHT ⭐

Here's a familiar face! Dr. Cathy has been a small animal vet for nearly 40 years spending over 30 of them in the Warwick district. After initially being a partner in a mixed animal practice, Cathy built this dedicated small animal practice, Condamine Veterinary Clinic in 2011.

She enjoys continuing education and sharing her vast experience, skills and knowledge to help improve the lives of our clients, their pets and our amazing staff. Cathy is kept busy with her own special furry friends Lucky, Bruce, Maudie and Poppy.

Cathy would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of her loyal clients for providing unwavering support over the many years and she would like to share some exciting news.

In August this year, Cathy handed over the reins and sold the clinic to Dr. Christine! However, it will be business as usual for you and your pets as Cathy is delighted to continue to care for all our clients and patients while knowing the clinic's future is in safe hands.

‘It has been a truly amazing and fulfilling journey and a genuine privilege to have been able to serve this great community.’

TICK ALERT!!!

A timely reminder to check that your pets are up to date on their tick prevention!

Lovely little Bambi found herself with a paralysis tick on her eyebrow. Fortunately, her owners brought her in to see us before she developed serious symptoms of tick paralysis.

Symptoms to watch out for include hindlimb weakness, breathing difficulty, coughing, vomiting and changes in voice.

If you have any questions about covering for ticks, our friendly staff can help you get your pets up to date.

Do you think your cat sleeps too much? On average, cats will sleep 12-16 hours a day. If your cat suddenly increases its sleeptime, particularly older cats, maybe its time for a health check.

Allergies are a common cause of recurrent skin and ear problems seen in dogs. They can be caused by fleas, grasses, dust and pollen, or food. A diagnosis can be determined by a thorough allergy questionnaire, looking at the distribution of skin lesions, and/or running an elimination diet trial. If your pet suffers from ongoing itchiness or skin problems, book an allergy consultation today.

**WARNING** RAT BAIT TOXICITY

Each year as the weather cools off and rats/mice come seeking warmer shelter, we see an increase in cases of rat bait toxicity - this year is no different.

PET SAFE RAT BAIT IS NOT REALLY PET SAFE - it just means your pet needs to eat a bit more of it to get sick, we see plenty of cases of pets poisoned with the pet safe variety.

Signs of toxicity usually start 2-7 days after eating the bait/dead rodents, and generally relate to bleeding from anywhere - bloody urine, bloody faeces, bloody vomit, coughing/laboured breathing, bruising, swollen abdomen, lethargy, off food.

Treatment is available for your pet, and varies from making them vomit (recent ingestion) to tablets to emergency blood/plasma transfusions and several days in hospital.

Please make sure all rat baits are out of reach of pets, and also that pets are not eating the baited/poisoned mice as that can also make them sick.

Please call the clinic on 4667 1176 if you think your pet has just rat bait, or you are worried about them being unwell.
