5 days ago Sonny was admitted into hospital after being bitten by a red-bellied black snake.
His health was touch and go for a few days, but after two antivenom infusions his story has a happy ending - yesterday afternoon Sonny was discharged from hospital 💜 He was a brave lil fighter and the team were so happy to see him heading home.

Training, like diet, can be controversial as everyone has their own take on what works best. However, we strongly believe that, based on the research, positive reinforcement training results in the best short- and long-term outcomes in dogs. 🐶🏅

Positive reinforcement training relies on rewarding good behaviour rather than punishing the bad. Punishment can be effective in the short term, but it results in fear and anxiety in pets.

Training pets should be fun! Start your positive reinforcement training today and see the difference in your dog’s behaviour! 🐾

After nine weeks of pregnancy, Freya underwent an elective caesarean. Dr Vivien and the nursing team were able to successfully deliver her puppies and recover Freya from her anaesthetic.
Two weeks earth side, they are all thriving and gaining weight. Freya has wonderfully taken on her new role of motherhood, taking very good care of her babies 🥰

One of the most common questions we get asked around desexing is whether it will change a pet’s personality. Fortunately, the answer is simple – no it won’t!

Desexing your pet prevents unwanted pregnancies and significantly reduces the risk of reproductive cancers such as ovarian, mammary and testicular cancer. While it can reduce the incidence of certain behaviours, such as wandering, fighting and hu***ng, it won’t change your pet’s underlying personality and they’ll still be the dog you love! 🐕💕

If your dog can’t stand to be apart from you, they might have separation anxiety. Signs of separation anxiety in dogs include destructive behaviour, excessive barking, and house soiling. 🐾

Don’t let your dog’s separation anxiety get the best of them. If you suspect your dog has separation anxiety, give us a call to arrange a chat with one of our vets who can provide advice and treatment. 📞

Age is not a disease! Even older pets can have surgery safely.

Many pet owners worry about anesthesia in older pets. Advances in veterinary care mean that anesthesia is safe for most senior animals, and the benefits almost always outweigh the risks. We use human-grade anaesthetic agents and always check your senior pet’s underlying health through blood tests prior to any surgery. 🧑‍⚕️

If your pet needs surgery but you’re unsure about the anaesthesia, chat with our team to find out more information about how we manage senior surgeries.

Yesterday we said farewell to Dr Jess who is now on maternity leave 🌺 Sending her all our love and best wishes as she prepares for her newest addition.
Fortunately for us, we don't have to say goodbye to Bec just yet. You'll still see her friendly face in the clinic for a little longer 💜

There are many plants in Australian gardens and bushland that can cause contact dermatitis or allergies in pets. Common ones include Zebrina (Wandering Trad), Moses-in-a-cradle, and certain grasses such as kikuyu and buffalo grass. These plants can cause itchy, red skin where they touch your dog.

If you suspect your dog has allergies, don’t hesitate to contact us. It’s important to find the cause so treatment can be tailored to your pet and we can alleviate their discomfort. 🌱🐾

⚠️Warning Graphic Content ⚠️
Dusty was rushed into the clinic after getting her leg caught in wire. The skin was pulled away exposing the bone and tendons and potentially leaving the skin without a blood supply. This is called a degloving injury. Immediate first aid applied by her owner and early reconstructive surgery by Dr Jess has been a great success.

Is your cat wheezing or coughing? These could be signs of feline asthma.

Asthma can make it difficult for your cat to breathe and can significantly impact their quality of life. If left untreated, asthma often gets worse and more difficult to control.

If you suspect your cat has asthma, bring them in for a check-up. We can diagnose the condition and recommend appropriate treatment options. 🐱💨

If you have a dog that’s previously had an ear infection, or maybe they’ve just got floppy or hairy ears, you might be wondering if you should be cleaning their ears regularly. The answer is: it depends. 🐶👂

In some dogs, regular ear cleaning can help prevent a build-up of debris and reduce the risk of infections. However, overcleaning, can actually damage the ear canal and increase the risk of infection.

Chat to our team for personalised ear care suggestions for your pet.

We know dental procedures can become pricey, particularly if they involve removing large numbers of teeth, given the time and effort these procedures require. 🦷

However, the good news is, regular dental cleaning (or scale and polish) not only prevents worse dental disease, but is considerably cheaper than waiting until your pet requires extractions. 🐕

We strongly recommend regular, routine dental scale and polishes to avoid more severe disease. Chat to our staff to learn more about the benefits of regular teeth cleaning.🩺

As the weather cools, it can be hard to maintain motivation to exercise. We know our dogs benefit from regular exercise, however that doesn’t mean you have to enrol them in agility or take them on long runs. 🐶 Even a daily 30-minute walk, at a pace suited to the age and health of your pet, can do wonders for their (and your) health. 🐾 Rug up to stay as comfortable as possible, including a jacket for your dog if it’s really cool, and get out there with your pooches! 🧥

Oral hygiene is vital for maintaining good overall health. It’s vital dogs have a dental care routine in place to avoid disease and tooth loss. 🐕

Preventative dental care is the key to good oral hygiene. As a general rule, the gold standard for teeth cleaning is daily (or twice daily) brushing with a soft human toothbrush and regular dental scale and polishes. 🦷

Contact our clinic to make a time with one of our nurses to develop a personalised dental care plan for your pet, to ensure their teeth stay clean and healthy for life. 📞
