There is nothing so frustrating as having a hen that neglects her chicks - leaving them cold and hungry. After removing her and her chicks from the aviary - to give her some peace - she still wouldn't care for them, so I fostered them out.
One hen suddenly had a 3d old chick among her eggs and this hen's brood increased from 3 to 5! That was 24hrs ago.
Isn't she awesome!!

Had some minor drama over Christmas when I accidentally lost a mum - flew right past me! She left behind some bubs - too young to rely on dad to feed them. So for the very first time - successfully!! - I fostered out 4 chicks across 3 different nests, including the chick below who lobbed in with some newly hatched. Well done mums!!

This little guy has had a hard start to life. First day out of the nest and I found it face-first down a hole. The only thing visible was its tail-feathers. It was a pretty banged up, cold and I wasn't sure it would last the night.
But, after a few days back in the nest and its ability to bite me, I'm quite sure it will be OK!!
