Off to the vets for an unexpected check up today.
Whilst there, I learned of an increase in snake envenomated pets in the area.
Sadly, household pets and snakes, as well as other reptiles, rarely mix well together.
Thankfully, there is a few things you can do to minimize the chance of an encounter. Snakes are generally in a yard for one of three reasons;Food and water, looking for shelter, looking for a mate.
If you can minimize things like food (Eastern Browns are fond of the common mouse while Red Belly Blacks prefer frogs and lizards), available water (if you're like me and have a water loving dog, this is difficult), rubbish piles or unkempt gardens and lawns, you will reduce the chances of an unfortunate encounter.
I'm available most Mondays to Fridays at the moment for reptile relocation needs, as well as yard inspections.

A game of what am I?
In my excitment I actually misidentified this fellow. He was treated as a young Eastern Brown throughout the capture and release and it wasn't until I was looking at the photos and discussing with another catcher that my misidentification was realised.
As always though, it is far safer to assume and act as if the animal in question is venemous.

A little bit delayed, but October marked my first year of servicing the public with reptile catch and release!
It's been a steady year, with some great success, like a snake that was stuck in masonry that had to be chiselled out and some jobs that were unsuccessful, like when an eastern Brown escaped into an internal wall of a house!
For all my followers, thank you. I don't advertise outside of social media and your support means the world to me.
Here's to many more years to come!

Seven calls in seven days.
Not as busy as some catchers out there, but a solid indicator that the snakes, and other reptiles, are on the move!
If you would like to discourage them from entering your yard, there is a few things you can do. Keep the lawn mowed, gardens tidy and limit water that's put out, which if your like me and have dogs that last one is rather difficult.
Remember, if you see a snake the safest thing for you to do is assume that it is venomous and to leave it alone. Monitor where it goes and, if it's outside, there is a pretty good chance that it will move on.
By all means give me a call and I'll do my best to locate and remove the visitor for you.

An Electrician got the fright of his life today when he opened a hatch to find this guy.
Thankfully, Murray Darling Pythons are not venomous. They can still cause serious injury or worse though, so best leave their capture and relocation to the experts.

Spot the snake, 2025/26 season, edition one. Bonus points if you can ID.
This is the original target snake from my callout last week where the Red Naped was located.
Sadly, the upload quality isn't great, but I'll post close ups if someone successfully gets the area.

Photos of the young fellow in the bag. He was positively ID'd a little quicker than I anticipated.

What am I?
I often get mistaken for someone with a far more intimidating reputation. I don't get very big and my favourite food are Skinks.

This little fellow is my first catch of the season, he was minding his own business not realizing that he was being hunted by another snake, who was the target of the actual callout!

A mid winters call!
Just because it's colder doesn't mean reptiles disappear!
This elderly fellow got himself caught in a bit of a bad spot and needed to be relocated.
When the weather is appropriate lizards, and snakes, will sun themselves briefly if they feel the need, as well as a cheeky snack if the opportunity arises.
