Update - we have a couple of potential mares for this foal now which we are following through. Thanks to everyone for sharing, calling and helping with this so far!

We have another gorgeous little 5 day old TB foal who sadly lost her mum overnight. If you know anyone who has a suitable mare please contact the practice on 0293997722 and select option 1 to speak to our emergency hospital veterinarian. Please share this post to anyone who may be able to help and hopefully we can find this little lady another mum!

Horses are pretty amazing animals.
Here are some facts that you may or may not know

♦️Horses can’t vomit.
There is a sphincter in the oesophagus before the stomach that prevent semi digested matter coming back up. If the stomach is full it presses against this sphincter which makes it contract even tighter.
If the horse has matter leaking out the nostril, that is a sign of choke.

♦️Horses don’t have gall bladders. In people, the gall bladder stores bile acids to assist with digestion of fats. Horses constantly graze. There is no need for the horse to store bile as digestion is happening constantly.

♦️Some Arabian horses have one less lumbar vertebrae. Instead of 6, they have 5. They also have one less set of ribs, so down to 17 instead of 18.

♦️Horses can’t get drunk easily. Due to an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase, which is produced to assist in the fermentation process which breaks down alcohol.

♦️ They have monocular vision. This means that each eye sees something different. Pretty handy to see what’s happening from 2 separate distances if you’re a prey animal. Horses also have one of the largest eyes of any mammals. Vision is also pixelated until they are almost upon something.
This is especially impressive when you think about horses in cross country and show jumping. It’s only as they get super close can they see fully what they have to jump over.

♦️A horse’s teeth take up more space in the head than their brain.

Looking on behalf of a client.

This lovely client is a 50 something competent amateur event rider. She is looking for a straight forward equine partner so that she can compete at 95cm as well as competing at Dressage days. This horse will be kept on her property and receive regular bodywork, saddle fitting etc.

Again, another 5 star home for this horse. The horse will be vet checked with X-rays.
