🐾Could this be our cutest community fundraiser yet? 🐾

Four adorable kelpie puppies from Pilbara Working Dogs are currently in the care of skilled trainers across the state. They are on their way to becoming expert working dogs and will be auctioned in September with all proceeds going to Telethon.

Our Little Telethon Stars Emily, Sophia, Connor and Harrison are helping out along the way too. We can’t wait to share more of their journey!

Kelpies for Kids

The first of our four trainers is, Tim Bending of Bendings Kelpies. Tim is taking on the care and training of Mr Red Collar ❤️

Tim, Kirsten and their two boys live on, and manage a cattle property in the Peel region. The Bending family breeds and trains working kelpies. Tim bought his first kelpie 18 years ago which started his journey on breeding and training which has since become a serious passion over the past 15 years. When asked his favourite thing about kelpies, Tim said “I love the kelpie's personality, work ethic, and what they have done for the agricultural industry over the last hundred plus years.”

Tim is very passionate about working dogs and spends every day with dogs either moving livestock on the farm, in the training pen with a pup or giving lessons to people who want to sharpen up their dogs handling skills. “The best thing about training dogs for me is building a solid bond with a dog and being about to tackle any job together”.

“I grew up watching telethon and so the opportunity to join KFK was one not to be missed as it is such a great cause. This is also a great opportunity to shine a light on the value of a quality, well trained working dog.”

Working dogs are a huge part of their lives and Tim is very excited to be part of Kelpies for Kids, to raise and train one of the KFK pups for such a great cause and to meet some amazing people along the way.

Once again, these puppies don’t have names yet and will be named by each of the Telethon Stars who are paired with our pups and trainers and will take part in the training process.

Coolynn Gypsy. D.O.B 24/05/23

Sire: GoGetta Cleaver Dam: Capree Skye

Gypsy is our up and coming superstar. Still only young she is showing signs of greatness, with beautiful style, feel and calm walk up strength, as well as an eagerness to back and bark in the yards.
Gypsy’s father, Cleaver, was owned by Joni Hall (Cattledge & Muster Dogs S1) before returning to GoGetta Stud on retirement for stud duties. We were fortunate enough to work with Joni and see her work her magic with training cattle in the Kimberley’s and also watch Cleaver and his progeny in action first hand. Gypsy’s mother was bred by the well renowned Capree Kelpie stud with proven genetics of excellent working and trialling lines. Tim has high hopes for Gypsy and is very much looking forward to what the future holds.

Beraking Holly. D.O.B 15/3/14

Sire: Pushemup Shadow Dam: Riverdale Gem III
Holly is the matriarch of the Bendings Kelpies team. Having travelled and worked all around WA on many different farms and stations, Holly has a great work ethic with plenty of grit. Holly has proven herself with great yard and paddock capabilities and with both sheep and cattle. Now 10, holly is a loyal member of the family enjoying semi-retirement on the back verandah. Although she is always keen to help Kirsten move the odd mob of sheep.
Over the years holly has bred some great pups passing on her work ethic and natural ability, this includes Bendings Emmy who got top price dog at last years WA working dog auction. And hopefully again this year with Bendings Groot that we plan to present at the auction in August.

Beraking Cassie. D.O.B 4/10/19

Sire: Barru Tom. Dam: Willshaw Twoey

Cassie is an integral part of the BGK team, with her allround capabilities and biddable nature. Cassie has proven herself in all working aspects with sheep and cattle in both yard and paddock. Cassie has a huge heart with an eagerness to please like no other. She is Tim’s go to dog for every situation, any day of the week. Her beautiful nature also allows her to teach the next generation of dog trainers.

*Note we plan to join Cassie in the near future for a mid 2024 litter.*

We welcome the newest member to our team Killili Diamond, and thank for the opportunity to own such a beautiful natured and well bred girl. Diamond will help hold the fort while Beraking Cassie is out on maternity leave in the next couple of months and hopefully in the future she will also raise us some little champions.

Working dogs are a very important part of our operation. We use the dogs to move the cattle through the grazing system and all weaners and trade cattle are trained with dogs when first coming off mum or on arrival, to help decrease stress, increase weight gain and ease of handling.

Welcoming the newest members to the Bendings Kelpies team. Thanks to Beraking Kelpies for the new recruits Beraking Gabby and Coolynn Ben. Ben is a full sister to Coolynn Gypsy that we already have in the team and is kicking goals.

Pilbara Frank, 20mth old Male kelpie. Frank is well started/ fully trained as a cattle/ sheep paddock dog, he is being used for weaner training and working cows and calves. Frank has a wide cast and is calm on stock, and strong when needed and developing a good head bite. He works well on his own and in a team and is a lovely natured dog. 0428746625

Thanks to the Farm Weekly for doing a great write up on last weeks sale. If you haven’t got a copy, go and grab one and see the full article. Emmy did us proud and to put cherry on top, my cousin David Whitting came away with the second top priced dog with Max. Max was sired by David’s dog Beraking Roy, another one of my fathers breeding.

A bittersweet day with the sale of Bendings Emmy yesterday at the WA Sheep Expo Working Dog Auction. We were very pleased to receive the top priced dog on the day. Emmy did us proud and presented as expected, showing off her natural ability and training.
We would like to thank the successful bidder and underbidder, organising committee, Blake Robinson, Jim Harradine, Greg Smith and his daughter Cass, and Westcoast Rural as well as the other vendors. We look forward to next year's sale.
