Unfortunately over the last month we have seen an increased of Parvovirus cases.
Parvovirus is preventable… but only through vaccinations.
Parvovirus continues to devastate us; with the current grasp it has on our town and beloved canines. It breaks our hearts seeing these beautiful dogs suffer. The most common misconception about Parvovirus is how it can be contracted. Your canine does not need to leave your premises to be susceptible to this disease. You can simply bring it home with you.
The only protection for your canine against Parvovirus is up to date vaccinations. That means the initial three puppy vaccinations. The first being at 8-weeks-old, followed by the second at 12-weeks-old and then the third, at 16-weeks-old. It is extremely important to keep up to date with annual adult vaccinations.
Our clinic has seen a devastating, heartbreaking increase in the mortality rate of our positive Parvovirus patients within the last few weeks. There is no guarantee that with even aggressive treatment your unvaccinated canine will survive Parvovirus, especially when Parvovirus is caught late.
Our clinic is currently investigating a new strand of Parvovirus that has struck our town. This way we have a better understanding of the Parvovirus we are battling for our patients.
Please book your beloved canines in today for their annual vaccinations. If your unvaccinated dog begins to show any of the following signs, seek veterinarian attention as soon as possible: Vomit or Diarrhoea, with strong unbearable odours or evidence of blood; if your canine is lethargic, has a low appetite or has gone off their food completely.
