From our humble beginnings as a small one-man practice in Willunga over 35 years ago, Willunga & Aldinga Vets has grown to a team of 11 vets and 17 nurses. We all have various interests, which allows us to cater for a range of species including small animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds and native wildlife, through to farm animals such as cattle, sheep and alpacas. We offer a full r

ange of services to the southern Fleurieu Peninsula from health checks and vaccinations through to radiography, ultrasonography, and surgery. We also provide a 24 hour emergency service for our clients. Our Vets and Nurses are very approachable and willing to help when you require our assistance.

💥 Safe Space:
Create a safe and comfortable space for your dog to retreat to. This could be a quiet room or a cosy crate with their favourite toys, blankets, and treats.

💥Calming Products:
Consider using calming products such as anxiety wraps, pheromone diffusers, or calming sprays. These can help create a sense of security for your dog.

💥Behavioral Training:
Work on basic obedience training to reinforce commands like "sit," "stay," and "come." This can provide a sense of control for your dog and help redirect their focus.

💥Exercise:
Ensure your dog gets plenty of exercise during the day, especially before the fireworks start. A tired dog is likely to be calmer and more relaxed.

💥Create Positive Associations:
Associate the sound of fireworks with positive experiences by giving your dog treats, toys, or attention when the noises occur during training sessions.

💥Play Relaxing Music:
Play soft, calming music or white noise in the background to help drown out the sounds of fireworks.

💥 Stay Calm:
Dogs can pick up on their owner's emotions, so it's essential to remain calm and composed. Reassure your dog with a calm demeanour and soothing voice.

💥Consult Your Veterinarian:
If your dog's anxiety is severe, consult your veterinarian. They may recommend medications or other professional interventions to help manage your dog's stress.

💥ID and Microchip:
Ensure your dog has proper identification, including a collar with an ID tag and a microchip. This is important in case they get scared and escape during fireworks.

Let’s talk about itchy skin! Does your dog have any of the following skin conditions? Some dogs who are susceptible to skin conditions can have a flare up with the warmer weather and different grasses etc. If you have noticed a change in your dogs skin condition give us a call and book an appointment so we can discuss treatment options. Spring is such a lovely time of year so let’s help our dogs enjoy it too 😊🥰🐾☀️
