Agisting paddocks

Breeding Welsh Welcome to Jessington Farm.

Our farm was established in 2001, primarily as an Agistment property. I always had the plan to breed horses; it was just deciding what breed I wanted. We decided on the Welsh Ponies as I was having trouble finding a pony for my then 2 year old daughter to ride without having to pay mega dollars. So with the purchase of a Welsh A mare from Dalpura Stud in early 2003, Jessington Farm Welsh Stud was born. We still have some agisted horses on the property but our ponies seem to be taking over.

On the 30th of May, I went down the paddock and found Jessica's new horse with a open wound on his leg. 55 days locked in a stable. Dressing from everyb2nd day to 3rd to 5th then 7 (which was a little disastrous) back to 5. Today after 153 days, we are leaving the dressing off and treating like a normal wound. What a ride.
Thanks goes to Roseworthy Vets for assuring us it will work, Sean for keeping Jessica from doing the inevitable, Rachel and Jess for helping during the initial dressing changes and Sarah for having me in her diary and coming out and holding him, wind, cold and sunny days. I will miss our catch ups.
I have warned him not to go near a fence again.

But hay is still the main menu.
Photos taken last week of same the horses enjoying their hay.
Thanks to the great farmers that continue to crop their paddocks to supply hay to all of us in SA

So we have had some excitement at the farm over the past 24 hours. Thursday night I was feeding out when one of the horses didn't come down. I went for a walk and found him with a very nasty wound on his back leg. A call to the vets in Roseworthy and a float trip down. Arrived at 10pm and the staff at Roseworthy were excellent. Overnight stay and back home yesterday with a 6 to 8 month wound plan... I will update along the way, but I won't post initial pictures. The moral of the story no matter how much you love and look after them, they have a mind of their own so if they want to hurt themselves they will 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

The rain has arrived. Obviously not enough but still some is better than none. The horses have their mud coats on. 🙄🙄🙄
