😭😭 JAX WAS FOUND TIED TO A POLE ON THE STREET BY HIS OWNER 😭😭

Imagine doing that to your dog? Because you got a new job and were moving away? How confused Jax would have been?

🐍 SNAKE SEASON IS UNDERWAY 🐍 Here are a few tips that we hope will help:

If your pet is struck by a venomous snake, their chances of survival are based on a few different things:
🔸 The type of snake that has struck them.
🔸 The venom output of the strike.
🔸 The distance from a vet and treatment.
🔸 Recognising signs of envenomation.

▪️Brown Snakes and Death Adders
➖If your pet receives a large venom output from a strike, it is unlikely that they will survive more than 20 minutes. It is, therefore, vital that you get to the CLOSEST vet immediately.
➖Ask someone local where the CLOSEST vet is if you are travelling and start heading in that direction immediately. Call ahead and let them know you are coming and what has happened. If you are on your own, ask someone at the scene to call for you, and get going.
➖DO NOT SPEED. A car accident, and injury to yourself or anyone else, will NOT HELP YOUR PET!
➖These snake strikes affect the nervous system, causing neurological signs such as: vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, wobbliness, muscle paralysis, and seizures. You may also see swelling at the site of the strike.
➖Try to stay calm and remember, that your pet MAY have received a “dry strike” (no venom) or a smaller venom output strike, so do not lose hope. Stay focused and get going to a vet.
➖If possible, keep your pet quiet and still.

▪️Black Snake (Red Belly)
➖Strikes will cause intravascular haemolysis, and may also affect the nervous system (as above), but there is a reasonable chance that your pet will survive.
➖The same applies as above, regarding dry strikes and venom output.
➖You may see the neurological signs listed above, as well as swelling at the site of the bite. These signs may be seen within minutes or there may be no signs at all.
➖Other signs that will be seen in 3-4 days (IF your pet has received a venomous strike) are pale gums, blood in urine or faeces, lethargy, and dehydration.
➖Get your pet to a vet as soon as they are struck or as soon as you see signs. The earlier they are treated, the more likely their chance of survival is. As above, call ahead, so your vet can be prepared. AND DO NOT SPEED.
