In dog training, it can be easy to take yourself too seriously. You can get caught up in your emotions and itโs easy to criticise yourself and others.
I swear in most training sessions I do something that is laughable and this weekend was no exception. I am uncoordinated and my dog is quick which is a recipe for things like this.

Great dogs donโt happen by accident.
Bad weather isnโt an excuse not to leave the house. In fact, leaving the house during a bad weather can show a pup that wet weather can be fun.
Your pup NEEDS wide environmental exposure during their critical period.
More dogs die from lack of exposure and training than disease caught from the environment (you still need to be careful with exposure when pups are young)
Pups need time and patience and to be shown different pictures multiple times.
Start training with your end goal in mind. donโt want your dog on the couch? Then donโt let your puppy up because itโs cute.

Letโs talk last minute cancellations and what it means for small business.
When you book a service and donโt show or cancel on the day, this is what we have done to prepare for you.
The staff and resources have already been allocated to your service. This canโt get cancelled at last minute as itโs unfair on the staff who have organised care for kids (and paid for it), driven up to an hour to get to work and taken time away from their personal lives.
When we call a staff member in to work, itโs a minimum of 3 hours so we try to back services one after the other to make it cost efficient and ensure we can financially cover their time.
We are so proud that we can provide employment for all our team members and provide a valuable and much needed service to the community.
We love our jobs and we love helping people but if we allow multiple last minute cancellations and cannot cover our costs, the business wonโt be here to help anyone.
So when you call and get aggressive about wanting a refund even when we are still incurring all the costs for this, please understand when we say no and refer you to our cancellation policy.
Running a business is not the easiest and in this financial climate itโs even harder. We try our best to provide as much as we can to our clients and we ask that you treat our staff with kindness and understanding and if you canโt make your appointment, please let us know well in advance so we can plan from our end.
Thank you for understanding and helping us to continue to be able to offer our services.

Itโs a phrase I hear often about peopleโs dogs. Someone sees a well behaved and trained dog and they say โwow, they are so lucky to have such a great dogโ
Guess whatโฆ.. ๐๐โ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐!
To have well behaved and trained dogs, it takes time, effort and consistency.
So before you tell someone they are lucky, stop for a second and instead think about how much work went in to achieve it.
Congratulate them on their hard work and let them inspire you to do the same โค๏ธ

I know I bang on and on about enrichment but itโs important for ALL your critters.
Not just your dog.
Noahโs favourite thing to do is climb trees so I take him out to do it. Plus heโs on a diet so the exercise helps shed his tubby tubby.
This guy isnโt destined for a long life as he has some health issues so I try my best to make sure that what he has left is great.

Each pup works for their meals daily to learn new skills.
We make training as fun and easy as it can be slowly putting a lot of little skills together. We include lots of play time too.

Yesterday I had to go to Albury Animal Hospital to help a client out with her nervous dog.
I cannot express enough the care that goes into your animals out the back.
While I was there I watched the vets and nurses putting their heart and soul into their jobs under some pretty hard conditions.
I feel very thankful to be an honorary member of a team this good โค๏ธ

Dogs are sentient beings and they have emotions and changes in mood and energy levels.
The desire for our dogs to be calm and placid at every waking moment is unrealistic and setting them up to fail.
Itโs why we are seeing so many dogs medicated on a cocktail of drugs that a lot of them actually donโt need.
What they need is fulfilment, enrichment, boundaries, the ability to express emotions and be understood. The list goes on.
Instead of wanting calm, letโs celebrate dogs quirks and weirdness and focus on fulfilling their needs and giving them a beautiful life.

I like pretty much all animals and figuring out how they communicate makes me tick. I could sit for days just observing a new animal to figure out how it communicates just so I can work with it.
Along with that comes a deep need to want to teach people about what all the critters want and need.
๐ข You see, I see so many pets (not just dogs) sitting in cages or small pens etc not being fulfilled.
โ When I agreed to take on a ferret that my daughter desperately wanted, I told her that if it sat in a cage for a full day even once, it would need to be rehomed.
๐ฅฐ Lucky this isnโt an issue. This ferret has a full and enriching life. He goes on adventures, plays, hunts pretend things and all round runs our house. Heโs about to start detection training. Todays adventure was out to the weir for some digging, a paddle and a run.
โHave we all forgotten how it felt to be locked in our homes over covid and what it did for our mental health?

Ever been told not to worry and once your dog โmaturesโ it will grow out of a certain behaviour?
๐ Sometimes it can happen, most of the time it doesnโt.
๐ Dogs practice what feels good so if ripping apart your couch feels good and rewarding, guess what? Theyโre going to do it again.
๐ฌ Your dog growled and bit someone and the person retreated? You guessed it, that was rewarding and therefore worthy of repeating. Trust me, this one often escalates quickly.
๐ช Each time a behaviour is repeated successfully, itโs strengthened.
๐จ The best way to beat behaviour problems is to prevent them or if they start, get onto it as quickly as possible.
โค๏ธ Remember, prevention is better, quicker and cheaper than cure.

If youโve ever been unfortunate enough to have your dog bitten by a snake, youโll understand how scary, expensive and devastating it can be.
We are offering another round of snake training on February 12th and 13th. This training teaches your dog that snakes are something to be avoided and reduces your chance of a bite.
The training is conducted by accredited trainers using a licensed snake handler.

Some people have some big feelings about my last post. Woke up and had to do a cleanse and a few light spankings.
Iโm all for healthy discussions but just know that if you choose to get down in the gutter you cannot complain when the consequences arrive.
Moving forward, we are NOT vet bashing. That wasnโt the point of the post.
Some of the most incredible people I know are vets and they are kind, compassionate and work their backsides off and do an incredible job under VERY HARD conditions. Personally itโs a job Iโd never have the mental strength to do and my guess is, neither would a lot of you.
Secondly, you personally attack me or my team, just know that I smile as Iโm responding and your comment goes into my little stash for special occasions ๐
