If a horse is hard to control or stop, a harsher bit is not the answer, you train the horse’s brain not their mouth.

If your horse is hard to control or stop, they are missing vital steps in their training & have been trained & ridden with incorrect priorities. It is up to us as their rider to learn the steps to “go off less” & improve our cues/aids.

It is not the equipment itself but the hands of which the tools are placed. Control actually has little to do with the hands.

Go back & restart, refine & fill in the gaps. A harsher bit may seem like a “quick fix” & may seem like it’s improved the control, but I can guarantee it will be short lived & your horse will become dull to the new harsher pressure & become even harder to control because they now have more discomfort to try & escape.

Did anyone else get stuck in a bit of a winter slump? 🙋‍♀️ or you just get busy juggling work, kids, pets, bills & just life in general. It’s alright! The sun comes back out, life settles down, the days get warmer & longer & we get back to where we’re meant to be simply because it’s where we belong.
