What is the difference between Private and Communal Cremation in NSW?

Private Cremation
Commemorates your pet's life by way of cremation in their own private chamber. Many providers will simply place bricks between pets in one chamber; however, we will never take this risk so that we can ensure pets make it home to their own families. Keepsakes such as paw prints, memorial urns, and final goodbye viewings are all available for your loved one.

Communal Cremation:
Your pet is cremated in a communal chamber with other pets, and their combined ashes are respectfully returned to the earth on our private property. Memorial products and keepsakes are not available with communal cremation. A communal option may be written as ‘general cremation’ or ‘no ashes returned’.

If another method or provider is selected, and your pet is not returned to you, their remains may go to a landfill or waste management facility. Rest assured, Patch & Purr only offers dignified and respectful options for pets: Private Cremation or Communal Cremation.

On the eve of Halloween, our attention gravitates towards spooky creatures—mummies, ghouls, and goblins. Yet, let's not overlook our native bats, unfairly burdened with the same stigma of being 'scary' as well. This Halloween, let's celebrate these 'sky puppies' 🦇💓.

Curious about how you can help native bats? 💕

- If you find a distressed bat, report the sighting to your local wildlife group

- Protect fruit trees with dense woven nets, shielding both the fruit and the bats (or perhaps leave some fruit for the bats!)

- Installing microbat boxes in trees within your backyard

- Foster a bat-welcoming garden by planting species such as Bottlebrush, Eucalyptus, Grevillea, and Lillypilly

- Rally behind Bat Rescue groups by sharing their posts or offering your time, expertise, or resources

Recently, the Patch & Purr team had the honor of caring for Lady Darci, a remarkable girl who touched countless lives through 11 years of service 🐾.

Lady Darci was the first dog in NSW to assist vulnerable witnesses in court, starting her work at Downing Centre Court and extending to Parramatta Children's Court, Campbelltown Court, Wollongong Court, and many others. She also brought comfort to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, to students and communities across NSW.

Thank you, Lady Darci for your incredible service. Our thoughts are with your family and colleagues as they remember and honour your life xo 🌈

Here are three simple steps you can take to help our beautiful native Koalas on ‘Save The Koala Day’ and every day 🐨:

1. Plant native trees that provide food and shelter for koalas. Koalas rely on the leaves of certain eucalyptus trees as their primary source of food so planting these species will help support them in the wild. Additionally, they use tree hollows as nests or sleeping areas so planting native tree species with large trunks will also be beneficial! 🌱

2. Reduce your impact on natural habitats by minimizing land clearing and pesticides near known koala habitats. Furthermore, reducing water pollution through proper disposal of waste materials can ensure clean drinking water sources remain available for their families. 🌏

3. Support local conservation efforts – There are numerous organizations dedicated to protecting wildlife like koalas across Australia; supporting these initiatives is one way we can all make a difference together. Some amazing agencies include: WIRES, Australian Koala Rescue, Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre, Australian Koala Foundation, Perth Wildlife Rescue, Wildlife Victoria, Sydney Wildlife Rescue, Koala Rescue Queensland, Lone Pine Sanctuary, Friends of the Koala, and 1300-Koalaz. 💚🍃
