Dog social skills
Not all dogs play well together.
It's pretty rare to have a truly social dog who blends his play style to the dog they are with. Wally is that boy
He met Teddy today and within a few minutes they became fast friends.
Great morning working with Betty the deaf mini bull terrier
She got to blow off some steam with big old Zeus afterwords but he doesn't get she can't hear him @ Field Dayz Doggy Daycare
This little terror is off for knee surgery today.
Poppy hurt her left cruciate a few weeks ago jumping into trees as she does.
Wish her luck in her recovery.
All clients welcome to make a booking as we now have a vet bill :) ha ha
Pleased to announce that on Tuesdays we will be providing one on one dog training from Field Dayz Doggy Daycare.
If you want your dog to have a great day socialising on 4 acres with a pick up and drop off service
Please make a booking through Field Dayz Doggy Daycares website.
As you can see the facility has ample space and a strict dog to handler ratio.
Remember, this training goes in conjunction with the work you do at home it's not the only training the dogs should have.
Quiet day cares are the most well run day cares. Notice the only noise in this video is me :)
Enjoy this hilarious blooper reel of Eddie the English pointer and one of the tunnel toys.
Doing some public access work with Poppy. Also temp was above 30 degrees today so I'm keeping all extra kit off her for her comfort.
Sox update -
" Johnny got to actually have a good go at patting him which he has never allowed before!! Im so happy thank you! 😊"
Since starting on pain relief and making some modifications to his food and litter tray situation Sox has had a massive turn around in behaviour.
He is seeking out engagement with humans of all sizes, walking around the home more and engaging with the other areas of the home he would normally avoid and his toileting issues have reduced from almost daily to now once a week or less.
Once his teeth are repaired I suspect all these toileting issues will cease :)
Look at this little face - you would not tell but this little lady at 19 weeks old has already bitten her owners quite a few times being possessive over items.
This is a behaviour called "resource guarding".
We had a great session last night working on building up trust and choice for her to give items up willingly and to learn to share.
Her owners have sent me a lovely Pupdate this morning
"Hi , thank you so much for spending time with us yesterday, we learnt so much valuable information. Already gaining her trust back with the resource guarding"
Great work by Karen and Frankie with their Stay cue.
Frankie is just 14 weeks old and through the 6 week Puppy class offered at Dapto vet by their amazing nurses and his great owner Frankie has learnt to:
❤️ Sit
❤️ Look
❤️ Stay
❤️ Wait
❤️ Come
❤️ Lay down
❤️ Follow directions to targets
❤️ Quiet (not bark) and Relax
❤️ Heel/not pull on the lead
❤️ Ignore other dogs / play well when allowed
❤️ Challenge himself on new surfaces and jump over items :)
They have been a pleasure to teach.
I was blessed to see the beautiful Arlo again. I helped her while working for a local rescue org.
Her new owners tracked me down after they adopted her.
We have misconceptions about staffy breeds and Arlo is an example of a well rounded American staffy.
She did great today and we worked on recall, walking, basic obedience and helping her family understand her brain.
So happy she has ended up in this wonderful home where she is truely loved.
Pupdates from Shadow's owner that I forgot to share before Xmas.
He's such a goofball :)
"Shadow's becoming a reliable little dog. Recalled him from about 50m at Windang beach this morning when he was trotting off to say hi to another dog in the distance. Couldn't have gotten this far without the training we got from you"
Kiwi and Bindi are getting on so much better.
By slowing down and allowing Bindi to control the interaction (she jumped into the area with Kiwi and has the chair to leave by if she needs it) she has become much braver. She had rewards on the grass on her side of the fence but came to Kiwis side of her own volition.
Teaching Kiwi that being calm around Bindi is the best way to keep her in her space has helped to build this relationship into a positive one.
Love this work - what a sweetheart. Her owner has had some issues with toilet training, barking, fear of strangers and some cat chasing in the home.
She's been won over today from barking and avoiding to this
We are working on convincing her not all humans are terrifying and she can control the interaction.
Her owner was told she needed $3500 boarding and training to be removed from the home by one trainer. Another who had never met the pup told her she would need multiple $300 sessions because her dog was dominant in the home. This little girl is fearful, timid and lacking confidence and understanding.
She doesn't need anything like that she just needs someone to show her owner how to understand and support her to get what she needs from her dog in the comfort of their home.
