Happy New Year 🥳

Who else is still enjoying those special Christmas treats? Please tell me the festive season can still continue ☺️

Today for our family lunch I tried to make fruit mince pies for the first time. I’ve been wanting to make these for years but have either felt that they were too difficult to make or didn’t have the time.

Using Margaret Fulton’s fruit mince recipe and Bourke Street Bakery’s sweet pastry recipe we pulled out a winner!

Here’s to trying more hard things in 2026 👌🏻

Christmas Pantry Discounts 🤩

We hate out-of-stocks and disappointed members – but now that we carry close to 1000 pantry lines, some out-of-stocks are inevitable. We’re learning.

Whilst we may have under-estimated demand for some products, our stock of other products on the other hand is bulging at the seams. Something has to give. And so: giving is what we do:

• Blackmarket Roasters and Wonder Coffee, whilst still freshly roasted, is 10% off
• We still have tonnes of Heinz Mild American mustard: out they go at $1 each (BBD February 2026)
• All Vintage Valley Nougat (which is for special occasions only) will go 10% off until sold
• Ditto with Abla’s Baklava: 10% off until sold (and there’s plenty left still)
• The hot weather might make you thirsty: Remedy Ginger Beer is 12% off and all Sodaly flavours down to $4.95 (15% off)
• If you want to mix it with the best: Fever-Tree sodas and 500ml mixers are down to $2.50 (70% off RRP)
• Clover Fields Candles and Diffusers are reduced to $2.50: that’s almost cost price.
• Mokate cookies are down to $4 per pack.
• Lastly, we have 37 left of the Oh My Gingerbread Christmas Fruit Cake 1Kg – now 10% off until stocks last.

Market Update!

The days leading up to Christmas is when produce prices usually go a little haywire: farmers don’t really know how much to send to the markets given it’s a short week, whilst shoppers – having held back for the past few weeks – throw caution into the wind and BUY BUY BUY whatever takes their fancy. That usually translates to higher prices, plus a good dose of uncertainty.

🥭 🍒 🍑 🍉
So we’re taking a punt here and there that prices don’t go through the roof: good-sized KP mangoes should be around $2.60 (and a whole tray for $32), 2kg cherry boxes under $18 a kilo, white grapes dropping below $10 a bunch, and all berries still reasonably priced.
The only near-certainty is that supply of apricots, peaches and nectarines will be excellent – with plums following in their wake. To ensure a consistent supply of summer fruit over the next couple of weeks, members should consider a 5kg tray of stone fruit.
Among the remaining fruit, papaya, limes, grapefruit and oranges are cheap, pears, bananas, lychees, passionfruit and watermelon are reasonable, but apples and pineapple (if you can get it) are expensive.

🥦 🍅 🧅 🌽🥔
Most vegetables should remain cheap: corn ($1.18), broccoli, broccolini, cabbages, kale, cauliflowers, carrot, beetroot, continental cucumbers, basil, most leafy greens, celery, lettuce of every persuasion, garlic, pumpkins, zucchini – even onions and potatoes are dropping in price. Tomatoes are dearer, but truss tomatoes – both regular and baby – are cheaper than last week.
Red capsicums are still moving at stratospheric levels (but greens have come down to earth), whilst Lebanese cucumbers are tightening: continentals are probably the better option.

🌽 Corn 🌽

Local growers are picking corn like mad: Manuel Xerri in Agnes Banks, Charlie Vella in Freemans Reach and his brother Angelo, Gerard Saad in Wilberforce, and a few more besides. So with this much supply, we reckon a dollar a cob is a fair price. Last time we checked, they were $1.90 in Coles. And thank God, no corny jokes from Anton!

🥭 Mangoes 🥭

Gee, we could have had almost every type of fruit in this week’s Divvy Deal – but if we have to choose, it’s going to be KP Mangoes. They’re mostly from Mareeba in North Queensland, and they’re considered the best-tasting KP around. Your Box Divvy price? $2 a pop for a medium-large KP, or $29 a tray.
